White people have been saying the same tired old stuff (about race)since the 1860s.Everything that has been said in this thread, has been said for over 100 years by white Americans.Just look in a history book. Most white people are "blind to race", kinda like when you look at the pictures of lynchings; You will see a bunch of white people standing around smiling and talking as if they dont see the black man hanging from the tree in front of them. Most of us dont "get it" and a lot of us never will.

Ok, you just can not be serious. No, I don’t think the same things are being said today that were said in the 1860's. We have a black man running for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES YOU KNOW? And you want people to believe that nothing has changed. I'm sorry but Hoodeeny couldn’t pull that magic trick off. |

I will say that growing up in Mississippi it was tough. I believe racism existed and still exists on both sides. It was in school growing up, neighborhoods, small towns and even shopping centers. My parents never instilled in me to hate another race. They taught me to love and respect others no matter what their color. However, when I went to school, shopping centers or where ever and saw that blacks and whites separated theirselves, I just assumed that was the way it is. And that's the way I grew up, as did many (whites and blacks) in my hometown. It wasn't until I joined the Navy and left MS, that I saw everywhere is not like that. I have had and still have many great friends of all races, even from MS as well. We are all ok with the way we grew up and realize we didn't ask to be brought into that. We also realize that we don't have to continue living that way. My greatest friend and my hero Bill M. a black retired CWO4 from the USN played a major role as to where I am at in my life today. I'm 100% sure I would be a lot worse off had he not been a part of my life.

Has anyone ever found caucasia on a map? I'm having difficulties.
we're americans. be proud of your heritage but it's not necessary to advertise it by declaring yourself african american. I don't declare myself german american even though through my mother's side i'm only 3rd generation or so american and I know a few blacks that have family history back a hundred years here still call themselves african american. |

African American
I have never liked that term but that is the way I am perceived by America crazy, huh? I am a human being a woman that happens to be of color and an American.... not necessarily in that order there are enough labels floating around I don't need any more thank you |

Well being half Native American I don't think I am putting any continent before this one.People should be proud of their heritage and traditions.Lots of people I know celebrate them, they have been passed down from generation to generation.
While I don't agree with labeling,I do disagree that heritage is unimportant. You have to know where you've been and learn from the victories and the mistakes of your ancestors. |

I want to have an open discussion about how dumb the term African-American is. I mean you don’t really see other races running around calling themselves IRISH Americans or Korean Americans. I say we just go by names …hey I’m Joe or Hey I am Leroy or hay my name is Jenny etc. What is the point in pointing out someone’s heritage for no good reason? Tell me …I would love to hear why. Better yet lets all just be Americans. i think of the word 'african' as a geographical location, or an indication of ethnicity. it isn't a race in and of itself. however, in canada, many people hyphenate their heritage: italian-canadian, portuguese-canadian, etc., especially during world cup! |

Am I the only one that has noticed the photo GOALLTHEWAY has chosen to post with this thread? naw...I saw it too, but what is the point in making any coments...the OP is obviously clueless.. (happens when you belong to a group with all the power).. the people who get to define what racism is are the ones who are victimized NOT the victimizers... |

There is no such thing as an American, no culture, heritage, or ethnicity...actually we are either European or Indian. Though African-American is a dumb term it holds some truth to it aside from your a-typical American that says "I'm American" as if it were an actual culture.

Ok my post was about how clueless Obama is. It has nothing to do with his race. My pic is a goof of the "What me worry?" guy on the cover of Mad magazine. Has nothing to do with Obama’s race.
So you are saying that a black person can not be made fun of ,no matter the context, because he is black??? (((that is racist on your part)))Even when a post or a pic has nothing to do with his race. That is typical liberal garbage. You guys throw race at everything. Ever hear the story of the boy who cried wolf???? Well that is where liberals are going to end up if they keep playing the race card. People are getting real sick of the race paranoia that lib's seem to suffer from. Oh and thanks for proving the point of my thread. You got tricked by a former pot head....Haaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!! |

Photo Guidelines * No suggestive photos, nudity, or obscene gestures * No disturbing images or images of illegal activities * No copyrighted material * You should be in all photos * Photos should be in .gif, .jpg, or .bmp format * Make sure the filesize of the photo is not too large or it will not upload properly Aside from this fact, I think it just says a lot about you that you are posting that picture in this thread. But back on the topic of what people with African ancestors chose to call themselves and why non-blacks have no business telling us what to call ourselves. True, people in this country that are descents of slave can't always agree on what to call ourselves. It is up to the individual person with African blood to claim it or not. Not you! If you don't like the term African American them go around calling us black or any of the other names I am pretty sure you use. |
