wonder how many so called african americans never had an african descendant

not all blacks are from africa

and not all blacks were descendants of slaves

kinda funny how people (green purple orange color is not relative)

fall for the separation of themselves for any reason

as long as there is a separation on a grand scale people will take offense to another group

thus prejudice prospers

and divide and concur wins again

soon all freedoms and liberties will be gone cause were to busy complaining about prejudice and not watching what the govt is doing

when they come for you will there be anyone left to help

offtopic offtopic offtopic offtopic We are not talking about people from India that have black skin. The question was about people in this country that do have african ancestors. Try to keep up!!!

Some black’s ancestors are from the middle east and Jamaica and The Dominican Republic and Haiti and so on and so on.

I think his point was that some people claim African heritage because they don’t really know where their ancestors came from.

Also African slaves were sold into slavery by other Africans. So part of the source of African slavery is truly Africa. Why be proud of that???

You need to keep up with history.

Why be proud of that? I can't believe you said that.

Why be proud of a continent that sold its own people into slavery??? It's a straight forward question.

bigsmile She dont have to answer to people like you.bigsmile

He wouldn't understand anyway.
bigsmile Excellent pointbigsmile We shouldn't even dignify threads like this with a response.

Go away then ...goodbye… see ya. You can’t leave though ...you’re to self righteous and miss guided to ever do that.
 I guess history is too self righteous and misguided too:smile:Goodbye waving

Bye Bye SUGAR.

Wow! Nice op... Lousy off-topic responses...

question was about doing AWAY with racism...

Yet each one responds with 'white', 'black', 'non-this-a-color','what-about-that-a-color'...

Where is the NON-RACISM in that...

EEEEK...

HELLO I AM HUMAN...

Breath a breath of fresh air with me... I really don't care where you are from or what you look like...

Just breath ...

Grow...

I want to have an open discussion about how dumb the term African-American is. I mean you don’t really see other races running around calling themselves IRISH Americans or Korean Americans.

I say we just go by names …hey I’m Joe or Hey I am Leroy or hay my name is Jenny etc.

What is the point in pointing out someone’s heritage for no good reason?

Tell me …I would love to hear why.

Better yet lets all just be Americans.

What are you talking about? There are Irish Americans, Korean Americans, Japanese Americans, etc.

I've heard many people describe themselves as Italian-American, Irish-American and so on.

It's not just African-Americans who do that.

I will admit to occasional frustration when someone sees me as just white or assumes my relatives arrived here speaking English with all sorts of advantages. They did not. They learned English and took jobs others wouldn't take. My Swedish great-grandfather died clearing land after working an 18 hour shift in an iron mine in northern Michigan. My fathers family is proud of their heritage and his sacrifices. They called themselves Swedish-Americans sometimes other times simply Americans. Something they were very proud of as well.

My German, Irish, French and Indian relatives have similar stories of sacrifice and pride about their forefathers who they are.

I do have a question to ask posters. Since not all black Americans are African isn't the term African-American a bad fit? Isn't that dismissive of people of color who might come from other places? After all the African continent is huge and diverse. Why not? Jamaican-American? Kenyan-American? Egyptian-American?

People look at me and call me white and I am not offended. I just wonder why that is okay.

It amazes me the sort of things people get all het up over.

This is why racism doesn't go away:

Lifting my pale oppressed finger to press 1 for English.
Using a respectful term for other human beings that is SEVEN ENTIRE SYLLABLES long and tiring out the tongue in my oppressed ivory head.

This is not why racism doesn't go away:

People of color being shot by police on "accident"
Dragging a man behind a truck until he is dismembered because of his race
People with recognizably black names being significantly less likely to be hired than people with more stereotypically white names despite having equal skills, experience, and qualifications.
Deporting Latinos even though they are citizens because you think "check their papers" means "check and see if they have brown skin".
Attacking random Arab and South Asian people because their TERRERRISSTS!!!?

Thanks for clearing it up!

It is funny, most black folks I know don't like African American either so who invented it?

If there has to be labels they have become accustom to black, be it accurate or not, cause I always say they are more brown than black myself.

I wrote an article that got published a while back and the ending line of my article was the line you used last almost to a t. Black folks just want to be given the same rights and priviledges of all other Americans.

I don't call out my whole list of ancestory because I am a mutt. German/Irish/American Indian, at least that is what I know.

I am at least 5 generations born here but I wished we would have kept all of our native languages.

I always say their are several reasons for racism to remain.

The first one seems to be a method of being superior to others. Think about it. You have either been taught or told that there is a level of "better" in the races or cultures, right?

Second seems to be this obsession we have here in America to LABEL EVERYONEnoway

Third, we grow up with prejudice in the home and continue to carry it on as a family tradition, sick isn't it?

My Grandma had an interesting life in Chicago...

Hummm Giocamo...we are about the right age...are you my cousin?

HA HA HA

Honestly, how far back do you all want to go? Some time ago I posted about the Moorish invasion Europe. They had there way with Italy. In human terms it wasn't really so far ago.

The didn't stop there. They surged north.

Truth is that if you have relatives from about 2/3 of Europe there is likely some intermingling of Moorish DNA romping around in your bloodlines.

Umm quick, check out your genetic lines!

I must agree!! And there are so many races with racism, not just whites. I'm tired of the forced segregations. I see blacks who are prejudiced against Hispanics, whites prejudiced against blacks and Hispanics, etc. It's all so stupid.

I grew up in Detroit and I met way more blacks who were prejudice and hated whites for no real reason other then the fact that they were white. That's a fact.

See white America has been shamed and bullied by the media, our legal system, political correctness and white guilt to move away from racism in the last 40 to 50 years. Mean while black America has been given a free pass to act out and behave as they wish when it comes to racial issues.

Well lets see if the playing ground is fair here FIRST before we compare white prejudice to black prejudice okay?

Whites have had the power and used it for awful, terrible, disgusting, etc... things against blacks AFTER slavery was over, right? To this day whites use anything and everything they can to keep the separation or distance, right? Discrimination happens to black folks daily from the stores they go to, to the police with their profiling, right? And don't try to say it doesn't happen I hang with black folks and have seen it all happen to them.

Okay so now you have black folks who feel America does not treat them fairly, can you blame them? You have black folks who just want to walk down the street or drive in their car and be treated as all other Americans on the street, they are still waiting. You have black folks who feel that when a realtor says the prices in the neighborhood of houses has gone down because blacks moved into the neighborhood, they are being discriminated against wrongly, are they wrong? I can go on and on but I think you are getting the point. I know all the lines to go with this.... "I don't do it so why do I have to go through it" well the point here is that the fact that happens at all means that all white folks will have to work within their groups to get this to stop and then they can quit hearing about it but until then.....

You wanna do away with racism...let go of the hate the developes from the differences in opinions. Laugh, crack jokes about it. The less sensitive you are about the issue, the more impartial you feel.

Racists will discriminate against someone because of the color of his or her skin.

People that add to the racism are those that assume everyone is racist. They try to pick apart issues until they find it then bring it out in the open. This all fuels a fire we should really be trying to smother out...
