From browsing through womens'profiles. I've seen that a lot of them are very well educated having masters and graduate degrees. Nowadays women surpassing men in education. Does a guy with little education have a chance on this site? Do women expect a man to have at least as much education as they have?
I fall into the category of just a normal schooling with no real qualifications as such but I don't want this to be a thread about me. I want it to be about women's views in general of the importance of education in a partner, so please keep me out of the discussion.

Unless of course you're interested in me. bigsmile

Tom --

I've really only looked at local profiles, for the most part, and 99% of those have been Mutual Match candidates. A huge percentage of them are either in college, or have been to college, but have the writing skills of a third grader, at best.

I can't honestly say I've read more than a handful of profiles where any of these women mentioned anything about preferring an educated man. I can't honestly say I've read more than a handful of profiles where any of these women said anything at all.

And I suspect that may just be more about my area and my settings than anything else.

Like you, I don't have any really extensive formal education -- I did a couple of years in college, and it really wasn't for me. Formal education is not the solution for everyone.

But it's never been an issue for me, with anyone I've ever talked to on a dating site. Maybe I'm an anomaly there. No one has ever told me I wasn't educated enough. They have plenty of other reasons to ignore me!

I believe there is a big difference between intelligence and being educated. I don't even give a man's education any thought- it doesn't even figure into the equation. Not everyone has been to an institution of higher learning. Yet I have met some of the smartest "blue collar" men here.

In my humble opinion I feel that everyone has an equal shot- "educated" or not. Its just how you affect the other person.

I think education can be way over rated the most well read, articulate, smartest man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, only had a 3rd grade education, My grandfather.
I have a Masters Degree big deal in alot of areas I am dumber than a bag of rocks. I don't judge by a certificate or a degree I judge by the person themselves.

Sure ya gotta shot brother! There is a huge difference between book smarts and real world experience. I am primarily self-educated and (Not to sound too egotistical) I am waaaay smarter, in a general sense than the highly educated birds I have gone out with. Sure, they have thier niche where they can teach me something but, that is fine.

Besides, if you can't dazzle them with your intellect...baffle them with BS.

One can gain intelligence many different ways and does not have to have a degree to back up what they know. Life in general will teach a person many things. My main thing has nothing to do with the level of education one made it too. It is all about can they carry and intelligent conversation and be able to hold your attention. Life is not learned through books but by living it!!bigsmile

This may sound shallow and materialistic, but I am more concerned about his ability to provide for himself and his family than I am about his education.

I spent the majority of the last 6 years supporting my ex-husband and I refuse to put myself in a situation like that again.

That only sounds shallow and materialistic if " provide for himself and his family " involves a huge house ( which he pays for ) a couple of expensive cars ( which he pays for ) and all the " finer " stuff that some ladies want ( which HE pays for ).

AS far as I know.." High maintenance " is more along the lines of the man being the one who supplies what you want and you don't do a whole lot.

You getting the things for yourself takes you out of that category. Just my opinion of course.

Thanks. blushing

I know, that's just my way of being a smart @$$.

Truth is, that I do enjoy some of finer things in life, but its nothing that I can't pay for and I really quite proud of that. I've worked hard to get where I am and I'm glad that I can finally enjoy it.

love is love ya know whata mean. seriously, i grew tired of choosing men based on profession/income/education. do you know how many loser lawyers and entrepreneurs there arelaugh a girl should do well for herself to be happy and be with the man she wants.. if there ever is one.
