I'm white, clearly. I will not be involved with a black man. That's MY CHOICE. Yes, it goes to my upbringing. AS a "Whitie", I DO NOT APPRECIATE HAVING TO HIDE. I am sick and tired of the poltical correctness. I, as a white person, must swallow all kind's of crap from other race's, because I'm white! They, you, can say whatever you want to me it seem's but, heaven forbid I open my mouth to stand up for myself. I am fed up with having all of this sh!t shoved down my throat.

That's the flip side of the racism coin...being made to feel bad because you AREN'T a "minority" race. My daughter's friends at school used to feel bad for her when they had black/hispanic/asian cultural day and she couldn't celebrate her heritage without being bashed. (They all decided they should have a "non-descript skin appreciation day" and that only a$$holes were to be excluded...LOL) It's fine for you to feel proud of being white, you don't HAVE to date anyone of another race, and as long as you aren't hateful to others (they way you've obviously been treated) then it should be cool with everyone. JMO...

i grew up around black ppl and 99% of them are my bestfriends and the moral of this is that this subject should never come up EVER!!!!!!!

I wish it never came up but because it's still an ISSUE, it's better that it come up and be discussed rationally than hidden in a closet to never be resolved. Will it ever be put to rest? OMG, I hope so...but then, I do wear rose-colored glasses!

"While the term racism usually denotes race-based prejudice, violence, discrimination, or oppression, the term can also have varying and hotly contested definitions. Racialism is a related term, sometimes intended to avoid these negative meanings. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each racial group possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another racial group or racial groups. The Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular racial group, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief. The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism as: "the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others." (Information gathered from Wikipedia)

I don't think we will ever quash racism, it would just go underground the more people try to unite the races

Well I DO think people confuse racism with naturally inate characteristics of various nationalities. And the minute that is said, people think you're racist. That's the furthest thing from who I am.
I am absolutely color blind. But there are wonderful things about every race that tend to develop from their environment.

You can argue all you want with this statement (or not  ) but I'll give you one example and you can build from there.

I am extremely jealous of AA's ability to build muscle and look buff frustrated .. I am talking athletes here. And both my sons will attest to the same thing. In the locker room. So ya.

Say it isn't so. I'll never believe you

My first wife was born in south Texas, coming from a mixture of German, Spanish(Spain), and Apache Indian. I am a Gringo. We got strange looks only by Latino males. If we went into a Mexican restaurant, they'd speak to her in Spanish, without even recognizing me. Funny thing was, I had to translate for her, because I spoke Spanish, she did not. That got us more strange looks..

I was raised by Archie Bunker(my dad). It took a few years of being in the army to get those nasty thoughts out of my head.

Now, I'm only prejudiced against idiots. They can be any color, creed, religion, social status, sexual orientation, weight, age, height, or gender. They're not as easy to spot...

There absolutely ARE cultural differences between people...doesn't make them right/wrong...just DIFFERENT and also makes our crazy human race more interesting IMO.

Trust me...if everyone was exactly like me it would be DULLSVILLE here...

except maybe when I'm doing the cha-cha in my underwear...lol...and yes, I'm JOKING! laugh )

I didn't read all the posts on this subject, and I probably should but I will state my opinion. Yes racism still exists, and it will always exist. Will it have an effect on the election? probably. I think all people are a little racist, even me. Or actually not racist but prejudice. My take on it though is the more it gets brought up, the worst it gets. The more I see Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson on TV playing the race card, the more my prejudices effect me. And a lot of blacks disagree with what those guys represent, which in fact (to me) is reverse racism. I wish people could just now be called people and thats it. I hate how on job applications or many other forms you have to check what race you are. This type of stuff is not helpful in my opinion. Children just need to be educated at an early age that everyone is the same regardless of color, and we will continue to see progress in this area.

What is it with all of this "Ethnicity/ background" woojamaflip they need when filling out forms,etc,etc..............Why should it be an issue ( especially when applying for a job?) what business is it for anyone to ask for your sexual orientation, colour or creed as long as the person applying has the right qualifications for the job?

That's what I do too, Dan. And I raise my child not to be racist.

Well i guess i could have a child and do the same! lol!

There has gotta be something else though? I really cant think of a single thing more i can do, apart from be an activist! Maybe i am just dumb.

Dan-can i just jump in? try to explain things here...it is really truely difficult to understand what you can do unless you see it for your self.

i grew up in the mid-west illinois small town 7500 people. there were 2 black students in my high school. the rest were entirely white. i never met anyone or new anyone from another ethnicity until i moved to NYC 20yrs ago.i just recently came back to illinois near small town.

i am just shocked at the racicsm still here today.
i don't think there is necessarily a specific act that you must do. i understand wanting clarification on that issue. the thing is, in NYC the racism was more under the table....nobody would dare speak out against the strong high number of minorities from around the globe even among co-workers or casual friends. the racism wasn't as blatantly obvious as it is here in illinois. in "sophisticated" multi cultural urban areas...the racism is not clearly seen. But trust me it is still there....i know London is very different and much more open minded than the most populated cities in the us. i think this is because of my wonderful American history, slavery, no equal rights, keep the black man down attitude and it is and was very much a reality. e

London does not have this history, it was not an issue in london and it is completely understandable that you would obviouly not know what to do to prevent. it is just not like that in england. racism is rapant here in the us. furthermore, i think it is great to have an outside perspective from another country. This just reminds dumb*** backwords Americans how stupid we really are.

sorry so long
