I was talking to a friend of mine the other day... we were talking about the upcoming election. She tells me that she won't vote for Obama because he's Black. And in the same sentence she says "I'm not racist tho"... Now who you choose to vote for, for your own personal reasons is one thing. But simply not voting for someone because he happens to be Black and then claiming you're not a racist is a whole different story. I told her that if your ONLY reason for not liking someone is due to their race, that does make you racist... I think she got offended but it was the truth.

Anyone who has to qualify something they said with the words " But I'm not a racist..." in most cases really is.

and that's your choice. I'm not debating the politics here... just the fact that she wouldn't vote for him because of his race and no other reason.

completely true. now i won't say who i'm voting for to spare myself from the glare of republicans oops . But I completely agree that if that was the only reason then case and point...she's a racist.

If she can't be honest with herself, then thats a sad, sad existence

Yeah. I don't like how many within the black community are saying that black people should vote for Obama because (a) it will make history and (b) cause he is black. WTH???

This kind of ignorance is very wide spread. Keep in mind... I'm not here promoting one canidate or another... I'm just debating racism here. I came across an older lady the other day that said "I won't vote for obama cause he will give all the money to the Black people" What???? noway She had no explaination for the statement she made. She had nothing to back it up with. Another guy said he won't vote for him because he's Muslim which of course... equals terrorist. WTF?noway Are we really this ignorant? That's just sad.

Jill, I'm so sorry you had to find out your friend was that, ummmm dumb and bigoted.

I find I view the world too often that way. I give people the benefit of the doubt and I get disappointed and frustrated. Now I expect little and am thrilled when I find a smart open minded person out there.

Disclaimers often revealing the truth:
I know you hate this, but....
I am not a racist, but...
I'm not a hater, but...
I'm not sexist, but....
I hate to ask, but....
To tell you the truth...
I'm just going to put it like this.....

How 'bout the guy who said he wouldn't vote for Obama because Obama's a Muslim. First of all Obama is a Christian, but is that not a form of racism?grumble

I don't think race should play a role in it. You shouldn't vote for anyone because of their race, White or Black. You also shouldn't vote based on gender.

If nothing else I think this election will be a lesson for many people like you, to learn that what we have been saying it true, racism exist and is an issue that corrupts all of american life.

exactly... why do people have to add the disclaimers? Is it to make themselves feel better about their own ignorance? Or is it so they can just ignore how much or a biggot they are altogether... ??

I'm a liberal democrat and I will vote for the peson who will fvck up America the least. Sad to say Republicans just send money outside the states and the liberal democrats believe more in big government. So the money will stay here.... and in a sense go to the black americans, rather than the Iraqis. laugh

Not to get all political but just trying to defend the lady in question.

I grew up where I was the minority. I was also taught not to look at color, you judge by the person. I don't base my opinion of anyone on their race in the slightest. To me not liking someone because of the color of their skin is as dumb as not liking someone because they're taller than me.
