With the film camera, I'm responsable for the results...*guess that's the artist in me*. |

i love photography
i have the Nikon D50 and i'm shopping for a good lens right now. i'd love to do more with it rather than it be just a hobby. i did my first wedding a month or so ago in an impossible setting (outdoor wedding+rain=everyone cramming in grandma's tiny but collected house) but still...i got some great shots. i've also taken all of the ones on my profile and then some. my profile used to be much more elaborate. |

Oh,I love photograpy!! I've always been interested it in. I prefer Nikon's SLR's, but think Canon does a better job with point and shoots.
I have a Nikon N65 (film), Nikon D80 (my upgrade from the D50) and a Canon A95 point and shoot. Yes, you can use your Nikon SLR film lens on a Nikon SLR digital, it'll magnify the image a bit more (I think it's by x1.3?) |

I kinda thought so, but the so called 'experts' I have talked to up until this point, (at the stores), had no clue...I was going to take my lenses in and try them on the digital body when I have the time. Thanks for your input! I was looking into the Nikon D80 also...are you pleased with your results with this camera? |

I LOVE my D80! As I mentioned, I had the D50, and it did a nice job and was a great intro to the digital SLR world. I had some issues when croping my D50 pictures, they distored some. The D80 just has lots of features, like you can edit the image in the camera and it saves it as another picture, and many more. By the way, The D80 price is/will be coming down because Nikon is about to put the new D90 on the market. It has video capability! Knowing how an SLR works, I have no idea how they managed to do that. I just hope they didn't compromise the integrity of the SLR. I don't think I'll upgrade to that any time soon, just good to know it's out there if anyone wants that.
I've done many weddings and events with the D80 and the quality is fantastic. If your real serious, treat yourself to an external flash. They are SO smart and you'll love the soft effect when bouncing the flash. That's a great idea to bring your lenses in to try on differnt bodies. There probably are SOME that will not fit. I just know mine fit perfect. |

what kind of a lens do you recommend
i'm looking for something that will zoom in very close i like taking candids of people but feel odd when i have to get so close and i pull up my camera to do so. plus it kind of makes a candid pointless when they see you snapping away |

Hi Becca! Congrats on shooting your first wedding! It is SO much fun!! Keep it up!!
I love candid's too, especially at weddings!! Everyone is so happy and look so good! Last year I bought the Nikon 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Nikkor Lens. (~$400) It is amazing! Small enough in size so you don't look ridiculous with this huge lens on your camera and its auto focus is very fast! It has a separate focus ring that you can use even in auto focus. It's nice because sometimes your auto focuses on something you don't want, you can manualy override it and take what you do want. I also have a zoom lens that goes to 300mm, that thing can be too slow for candid's. If you think 135mm isn't long enogh, they have a similar one that goes to 200mm but that one is about $800! Too much for me! When you get a chance, bring your body to a store and try some out... By the way, the reason I love Nikon is I believe their lenses are superior so I recommend getting a Nikon lense even though they are a bit more in cost, it is well worth it! |

BTW Becca, the pictures on your profile are stunning!
