Hi Becca! Congrats on shooting your first wedding! It is SO much fun!! Keep it up!!

I love candid's too, especially at weddings!! Everyone is so happy and look so good!

Last year I bought the Nikon 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Nikkor Lens. (~$400) It is amazing! Small enough in size so you don't look ridiculous with this huge lens on your camera  and its auto focus is very fast! It has a separate focus ring that you can use even in auto focus. It's nice because sometimes your auto focuses on something you don't want, you can manualy override it and take what you do want. I also have a zoom lens that goes to 300mm, that thing can be too slow for candid's.

If you think 135mm isn't long enogh, they have a similar one that goes to 200mm but that one is about $800! Too much for me! When you get a chance, bring your body to a store and try some out...

By the way, the reason I love Nikon is I believe their lenses are superior so I recommend getting a Nikon lense even though they are a bit more in cost, it is well worth it!

well, i did the wedding for a friend. n/c. i told them if they liked what i did they could donate something to me.
i'm my own worst critic and i know i don't have equipment to be able to take GOOD wedding pictures, but i did my best with what i had. the lens definitely needs an upgrade and i'm going to go with the external flash also.

what about this one:
AF-S VR Micro- NIKKOR
105mm f/2.8G IF-ED

I have a Nikon N70 35mm and a cheapo digital...Fuji FinePix A345. Hoping to upgrade with a digital Nikon before too long, something that will accept the lenses I already have.

My daughter just treated herself to a proffessional Canon 400D SLR digital with a zoom lens...what I would do to get my hands on THAT for a day!

Go to estate sales You can often find some great cameras. Occasionally pawn shops. Even church fundraiseing sales sometimes have great cameras for sale. That is where I found a couple of mine.

Becca, I have never used or seen that one so I looked up some reviews and that's an impresive lens!!! It looks like it'll take amazing close-up macro photo's!! I would love to get my hands on one to try because I'm not sure how versitile it would be. I say test it out!!

Your D50 is great equipment for amazing pictures!! I agree on upgrading your lens and you will be shocked at what you do with it...
I'm not far behind you when it comes to photography gigs. I did my first dozen for free, letting them know gratuities are accepted. That's a great way to start out and build your confidence and portfolio. (I'm still working on mine) It looks like you have a great eye for photography and your passion is apparent!

Thank you sayinghello! My favorite lens...zoomwise...is a Nikon AF NIKKOR 70-210mm 1:4-5.6 D...only about 5" in length, not too cumbersome. Especially great for portrait work!

Hope I can capture some good shots here in a couple weeks as the countries largest hot air balloon event gets under way. Last I heard some 650 balloons have registered to participate...80 or so being 'special shape balloons'. Still waiting to hear from my balloonitic friends from Reno to see if they are coming...if so, I just may get some shots from the air also!
