Becca, I have never used or seen that one so I looked up some reviews and that's an impresive lens!!! It looks like it'll take amazing close-up macro photo's!! I would love to get my hands on one to try because I'm not sure how versitile it would be. I say test it out!!

Your D50 is great equipment for amazing pictures!! I agree on upgrading your lens and you will be shocked at what you do with it...
I'm not far behind you when it comes to photography gigs. I did my first dozen for free, letting them know gratuities are accepted. That's a great way to start out and build your confidence and portfolio. (I'm still working on mine) It looks like you have a great eye for photography and your passion is apparent!

Hi Becca! Congrats on shooting your first wedding! It is SO much fun!! Keep it up!!

I love candid's too, especially at weddings!! Everyone is so happy and look so good!

Last year I bought the Nikon 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Nikkor Lens. (~$400) It is amazing! Small enough in size so you don't look ridiculous with this huge lens on your camera  and its auto focus is very fast! It has a separate focus ring that you can use even in auto focus. It's nice because sometimes your auto focuses on something you don't want, you can manualy override it and take what you do want. I also have a zoom lens that goes to 300mm, that thing can be too slow for candid's.

If you think 135mm isn't long enogh, they have a similar one that goes to 200mm but that one is about $800! Too much for me! When you get a chance, bring your body to a store and try some out...

By the way, the reason I love Nikon is I believe their lenses are superior so I recommend getting a Nikon lense even though they are a bit more in cost, it is well worth it!

I LOVE my D80! As I mentioned, I had the D50, and it did a nice job and was a great intro to the digital SLR world. I had some issues when croping my D50 pictures, they distored some. The D80 just has lots of features, like you can edit the image in the camera and it saves it as another picture, and many more. By the way, The D80 price is/will be coming down because Nikon is about to put the new D90 on the market. It has video capability! Knowing how an SLR works, I have no idea how they managed to do that. I just hope they didn't compromise the integrity of the SLR. I don't think I'll upgrade to that any time soon, just good to know it's out there if anyone wants that.

I've done many weddings and events with the D80 and the quality is fantastic. If your real serious, treat yourself to an external flash. They are SO smart and you'll love the soft effect when bouncing the flash.

That's a great idea to bring your lenses in to try on differnt bodies. There probably are SOME that will not fit. I just know mine fit perfect.

Oh,I love photograpy!! I've always been interested it in. I prefer Nikon's SLR's, but think Canon does a better job with point and shoots.

I have a Nikon N65 (film), Nikon D80 (my upgrade from the D50) and a Canon A95 point and shoot.

Yes, you can use your Nikon SLR film lens on a Nikon SLR digital, it'll magnify the image a bit more (I think it's by x1.3?)
