In 1993, as Osama bin Laden's fighters battled Americans in Somalia, Saddam Hussein personally ordered the formation of an Iraqi terrorist group to join the battle there.

For more than two decades, the Iraqi regime trained non-Iraqi jihadists in training camps throughout Iraq.

According to a 1993 internal Iraqi intelligence memo, the regime was supporting a secret Islamic Palestinian organization dedicated to "armed jihad against the Americans and Western interests."

In the 1990s, Iraq's military intelligence directorate trained and equipped "Sudanese fighters."

In 1998, the Iraqi regime offered "financial and moral support" to a new group of jihadists in Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq.

In 2002, the year before the war began, the Iraqi regime hosted in Iraq a series of 13 conferences for non-Iraqi jihadist groups.

That same year, a branch of the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) issued hundreds of Iraqi passports for known terrorists.

There is much, much more. Documents reveal that the regime stockpiled bombmaking materials in Iraqi embassies around the world and targeted Western journalists for assassination. In July 2001, an Iraqi Intelligence agent described an al Qaeda affiliate in Bahrain, the Army of Muhammad, as "under the wings of bin Laden." Although the organization "is an offshoot of bin Laden," the fact that it has a different name "can be a way of camouflaging the organization." The agent is told to deal with the al Qaeda group according to "priorities previously established."

Bin Laden believes that the restoration of Sharia law will set things right in the Muslim world, and that all other ideologies—"pan-Arabism, socialism, communism, democracy"—must be opposed. He believes Afghanistan under the rule of Mullah Omar's Taliban was "the only Islamic country" in the Muslim world.Bin Laden has consistently dwelt on the need for jihad to right what he believes are injustices against Muslims perpetrated by the United States and sometimes by other non-Muslim states, the need to eliminate the state of Israel, and the necessity of forcing the US to withdraw from the Middle East. He has also called on Americans to "reject the immoral acts of fornication (and) homosexuality, intoxicants, gambling, and usury," in an October 2002 letter.

Probably the most controversial part of Bin Laden's ideology is that civilians, including women and children, can be killed in jihad. Bin Laden is anti-Jewish, and has delivered warnings against alleged Jewish conspiracies: "These Jews are masters of usury and leaders in treachery. They will leave you nothing, either in this world or the next."Shia have been listed along with "Heretics, ... America and Israel," as the four principal "enemies of Islam" at ideology classes of bin Laden's Al-Qaeda organization.[46]

As a Wahhabi, bin Laden opposes music on religious grounds, and his attitude towards technology is mixed. He is interested in "earth-moving machinery and genetic engineering of plants", on the one hand, but rejects "chilled water" on the other

new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.

Suskind writes in "The Way of the World," to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery - adamantly denied by the White House - was designed to portray a false link between Hussein's regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 — The Central Intelligence Agency last fall repudiated the claim that there were prewar ties between Saddam Hussein’s government and an operative of Al Qaeda, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, according to a report issued Friday by the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The Reports
(intelligence.senate.gov) The disclosure undercuts continuing assertions by the Bush administration that such ties existed, and that they provided evidence of links between Iraq and Al Qaeda. The Republican-controlled committee, in a second report, also sharply criticized the administration for its reliance on the Iraqi National Congress during the prelude to the war in Iraq.

Can we get BACK ON TPOPIC?

McCain, while pondering a future in politics, met Cindy Hensley, an attractive 25-year-old woman from a very wealthy politically-connected Arizona family. While still married to Carol, McCain began an adulterous relationship with Cindy. He married Cindy in May 1980 -- just a month after dumping his crippled wife and securing a divorce.

IMO 5 years in captivity would do a lot to mess with your mind, and take a lot of years to work through. We cannot even begin to know the details of the "unfaithfullness" that occurred and it seems silly to use that fact as a basis of why he should not be president. Also, I never saw Bill Clinton shunned. Rather the opposite, he got way more attention than he deserved over his antics. Hell, his own wife didn't even shun him.

Oh now yu did it. You pointed out the double standard DEMS have. laugh

*GASP* A politician that cheated on his wife!!

Like Clinton, FDR, JFK, etc. you mean???

I really don't care. He's married now and I care more for what he will accomplish.

Bush didn't cheat, that got HIM real far, eh?? NOT! He is hated for being a faithful husband, and Clinton is worshiped for being a male w&ore!

Bah!

You know, for some reason, I don't think the reason Bush is so hated is that he was a faithful husband.

Nope, its because he is a scapegoat for people and he doesn't have the charisma to talk his way out of things. You could put Bill Clinton and the exact same scenario, making the exact same decision, and having the exact same outcomes, but people would like him way more because he can talk his way out of a paper bag.

More like simply because he was a democrat. Talk about voter ignorance???

Wow, you people really don't understand what a hypothetical is. I blame our countries education system.

That is interesting coming from a person from Louisiana, the 44th ranked state in education.
http://www.morganquitno.com/edrank.htm

Yes well at least they were smart enough to put the blame for Katrina where it really belonged...with their DEM gov. who wasn't taking care of business in the state.

She was voted OUT! That's how you're suppose to handle bad politicians.

The REPS are doing a fine job in Louisiana.

D!ck Cheney told us there was a link on several occasions and said there was "overwhelming evidence." The 911 Commission found no such evidence. Cheney lied.

Good point! And for the record, just because I call it like it is, doesn't mean I'm a Republican. I have an independant mind and have voted both ways. Ashamed to say I bought the ole lie about healthcare reform and voted for Clinton! Voted for Ross Perot..wish he got in!!

I was being sarcastic..my point is that Bush is blamed for EVERYTHING..and Clinton got away with murder..quite possibly for real. (Their best friend who committed suicide over the Whitewater Scandal???!!)

ALL politicians carry baggage...I look at what they propose to DO and if it's a viable platform...and decide for myself who to vote for. I am no sheep..blindly hating or blindly trusting either side.

I just happen to think that McCain is the better choice. The prospect of Obama scares the bejesus outta me!! I have to have this article I was reading and post it here. Give me a few...

Oh, and there IS no Democratic party anymore..it's the "Liberal Party". Lieberman had to go Independent because he is still a moderate Dem...pretty pathetic, if you ask me!
