I somewhat agree with BobbyJ on this Kennedy business.

Kennedy escalated our involvement in Vietnam and had he lived pursuing the course he did while alive Vietnam may well have been worse...hard to imagine but possiable.

Kennedy changed this country with his actions and presence but his legacy and the myth surrounding him might be more powerful than his actual deeds were.

Richard Nixon's legacy was dark. He is forever tied to Watergate and his resignation but Nixon, as bad as he was, did see at some point that Vietnam was a no win proposition for us as it was for the French before us.

Nixon that skunk arguably saved as many lives as he lost and got us out of Vietnam. (yes I know I am simplifying the events)

History remembers Kennedy as a knight in shinning armor while Nixon is remembered with the "I am not a crook" quote.

The truth I think is somewhere in between.

I saw the speech replayed as i was leaving work and i had to stay and watch it. Normally things like that never get to me, but for a moment there i actually believed what he talked about and believed that he could actually do it.

Then my mind went back to normal and realized hes part of the government so i can't get my hopes up too much lol. All in all it was a great speech drinker

I do have a bit of a busy life

Not too busy to be posting here.

You see... this is why no one convinces me. I told you i read his website. No one here can actually defend the man. I am trying to critically think here, but no one seems to want to.

Drivinmenutz....there is no defending the man...I forced myself to listen to him....and I became even more disgusted with his deceitfulness....manipulations....THAT IS WHAT the people here cannot comprehend...THEY WERE MANIPULATED.....all caught up in the moment...but that is EXACTLY what is was tonight...a mere moment....empty and manipulative....nothing else...

LINDYY

Honestly Lindy, i am thinking you are right. After hearing his earlier speachings and reading things from his website i have discovered a man who is a talented public speaker. Unfortunately i haven't really seen anything of substance from the man's speaches. I think people looked at what happened under the Bush administration, and now blame everything on republicans. Natually many people would be leaning democrat, and when you combine that with Obama's public speaking ability, you have a lot of die-hards that want so badly to hear his beautiful words. They don't always think that maybe a democrat can be corrupt too...

Obama said in his speech tonight that it is not the responsibility of Government to do everything for you, but they can inspire you to do good things for America.

It reminded me of the JFK speech.

And what did JFK do other than make impressive speeches? Nearly get us into a nuclear war! What do you think he was in Texas for, but to try and hold the state because he was in danger of losing his next election.

JFK INSPIRED people to do great thing. He inspired this country to put a man on the moon in 10 years and it was accomplished! This was a real boost for American morale. You say he almost got in a nuclear war. He stood firm against the Soviet Union on their deployment of nuclear missles in Cuba, the USSR blinked and we won that stand off. They removed the missles.

JFK didn't inspire anyone. His memory did and that was used by Johnson to get what he wanted done. Who do you think sent the first U.S troops in Viet Nam and double-crossed Ho Chi Minh? Kennedy! Stood firm against the Soviet Union? You don't read the facts do you? Why do you think the missles were taken out of Cuba? It was because we agreed to take ours out of Turkey which we put there first provoking the missle crisis in the first place. The USSR didn't blink, both sides "blinked". Get it straight!

Bobby, I suppose you could look at history from many angles. JFK did stand up to the Soviets during the Cuban Missle Crisis and yes, we did have missles in Turkey. None the less, we won the stand off.

If you read what others have to say, you may also think that we forced the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

What is the true story? It is the story as seen through the eyes of Americans. The Japanese attacked us.

We won the standoff according to the way you read it in American papers. The facts are facts. The USSR did not break Kennedy's blockade because we first agreed to remove our provocative missles in Turkey. So like I said, it was a mutual "blink". You can believe the American press or you can believe the facts. You can believe Obama or McCain will be a great president, but in the end, you'll end up believing a lot of crap, just like what you read in the press about the missle crisis.

OMG, I couldn't read anymore posts from everybody. The right, the left, I don't really think it matters anymore. Regardless of whether or not you want Obama or McCain I don't think that anyone can say that the man doesn't inspire. Everyone wants to say what he can't do and he's promising too much stuff, and I think that they are missing the point. This is bigger than him. Whether you believe that he can do it all is irrelevent because he cannot. And he never said he could. He's calling upon Americans to step up to the plate and work together. So if one man can inspire all races and people to come together and just hope, or believe that government can be better, and America can be better than he has done more than any president in my little bit of time on this earth. Some things are bigger than red and blue or black and white. His ability to inspire means that even people who don't agree with liberals can come together with us and make great changes. One person, such as Obama can do all the things he promises only in that he has ignited a passion in many Americans to believe that together we can do anything, and to hope for something better is an okay thing to do. So if you want to come on here and speak poorly on his speech, or how you think we are all silly, and nothing can change, then that is fine...those of us that believe will just have to work that much harder to try and make this country a respectable place to call home again for ALL of us.

Fire it up!
Ready to go!!

deluxe
can i ask you seriouslly
what is it that he is saying he will do is going to personally effect you?
like do you have health problems and hes health care solution is going to help you out or a family member over seas and he is going to bring them home?

why are you voting for him?

Duckie, what he is saying will affect all of us.

I do not have health problems.
I have hardly been sick a day in my life.
I have the best Blue Cross insurance money can buy.
I am financially successful and retired at 50.

I have been a life long Arizona Republican but I recently went and spent a month in HAWAII and had a real change in attitude. Maybe it is the Aloha spirit that got into me.

This country needs a big change and I believe he can do it.

Obama can't do big change. he talks it but cannot walk it.
he has no clout. no experience. Biden is hardly a consensus builder. it is a real problem. can mccain do big change?
doubtful. but he has a better chance.

if Obama gets in it will polarize the parties further.
mccain less. imo. but i don't really care for either of
them. i'm still sitting on the fence.

Senator Obama kinda scares me. Here's this nobody from nowhere and suddenly he's got this great cult of personality rock star thing going

kinda seems like a moonie cult. I have an image in my head of a crowd of zombies in the street chanting "O-BA-MA. O-BA-MA"
