The following general procedures apply to nearly all. Fresh are much easier than old ones, so take care of them promptly.

1. Blot up any excess liquid with a clean white cloth, paper, or other towels. Remove excess solids by gentle scraping or scratchin. With some solids such as heavy amounts of surface mud, removal may be easier after drying. Excess can be brushed off before submerged for washing.

2. Avoid rubbing the with a linty terry towel or a dark-colored cloth. You may complicate the problem.

3. Never rub with bar soap. Soap may cause setting.

4. Decide if washable or drycleanable. If drycleanable, take to the cleaners as soon as possible (within 24 to 48 hours).

5. Do not try to treat suede, leather, or fur. Professional cleaners are needed for these items, and even some professionals do not offer this service.

6. Avoid using hot water. Hot water can also cause setting.

7. Test agents on a seam or hidden area to be sure it does not affect color or finish.

8. Avoid excessive rubbing. Be gentle and use only the force necessary to achieve the best results.

9. Do not iron or press. Heat must be used judiciously. Inspect wet before drying. Wet inspection aids in visualization.

10. Check everywhere patiently and thoroughly before washing. Often, pretreatment is recommended for optimal results.

To remind them of why they have smaller feet. (it's so they can stand closer to the stove and have my supper cooked when I walk in the door)
