Let's takeover Russia next! Really...in all honesty going against Russia is in a way contradictive. Russia was doing fine as a communist nation...up until...well you know the rest.

I do not think that Putin will try to reannex all of the old satellite countries, just Georgia, so that it's oil will make money that Russia desparately needs

hmmm. Giving them what they want. Interesting concept. Wonder if it would work better now than in '39.

We are sending the military with aid to them. We are forcing the UN to do something about. We are basically sending a message to the world that we won't tolerate this from any one including russia!!!!

Too bad we do not practice what we preach though huh???

The U.S. has done some very bad things, particularly during wars, but it has never committed systematic genocide. Demonize America all you want--you can't prove otherwise.

I do not demonize America, I am not happy with the current administrations back stabbing ways. Of course it is okay for us to go into a sovereign country that did not do 9/11 and bomb the hell out of them, torture them, terrorize them daily and call it all right in the forced furtherment of democracy, which we are not, supposedly. But now a sovereignty is a concern???? Not even right no matter what you say.

So, here is a question for everyone weighing in on this.

Earlier this evening I saw an article reporting that Georgia's president said Georgia was turning over control of ports and airports to the U.S.

An official here in the U.S. said the only thing we would be sending was humanitarian aid.

Do you think the Georgian president hoped to further involve the U.S. by making that statement? Did he hope if he said that we would bring a military presence to Georgia?
 yes:smile:

Sure, whats he got to lose by not having US take control of things. That is a surefire way of pushing back russia.

Are we not counting Native Americans?

Our forefathers had no choice in their treatment of the Native Americans. The differences between us and them were inevitably irreconcilable to a great extent, and the social consequences later on would have torn this nation apart. They claimed it was their land, yet they missed a key point: it WAS their land. In the 1800s, we took it for ourselves, and they decided to resist. We did what any rational, sovereign nation would: we brought war upon them. You have to remember, this country was based on the works of classical liberals such as Locke and Hobbes, and the development of Lockian "fair use" doctrine (that is, the theory that unused property is an offense against nature) was grounds for the use of force.

Thomas Jefferson made a very good case for this in 1802, stating that Native Americans would need to become either civilized and learn from their white brethren or they would, and I quote, "relapse into barbarism and misery, lose numbers by war and want, and we shall be obliged to drive them, with the beasts of the forest into the Stony mountains."

It was an unfortunate circumstance, but we had no choice.
