I don't want you to make my decisions for me and I'm acting like a child? Wow..... some serious control issues.

Mind you, there is still no solid proof that smoking causes cancer. It is the pre-dispositioned mind that creates the danger and the hypochondriac person in side of people.
If you want to be sick, you WILL be sick!
There is much power in the mind and more people need to think of that rather than whining about the elements that we have already been pre-disposed to. Period!

Sorry but I have to totally disagree with you here.. we get at least 1-2 patients a month that we find lung cancer in.. and guess what? THEY SMOKE or did in the past!! And one patient was married to a smoker so therefore was exposed to second hand smoke... so believe what you want and I pray the power of your mind keeps you healthy!

My Dad died of lung cancer and colon cancer. He NEVER, I REPETE NEVER smoked ANYTHING in his 59 years of life and took good care of himself.

With all do respect,

Would you care to explain this to me?
Hi Doug. Sorry to hear that about your Dad. flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

Oh no!
You figured out I have control issuestears

I'm better off being me and having control of my life and what goes on in it than being in your situation. You've failed to quit (time and time again)and now you're trying to justify your failure with "choice".spock

Call me whatever you want.
I will continue to be that "control freak"...she keeps me out of troubleflowerforyou

Do you feel it unfair the way that the smoker is treated in society nowadays?
they get what they deserve, for killing themselves and people around them

That may be true but a lot of people are killed by drunk drivers or abused by alcoholics and no one is ostracizing drinkers...

I heard that!! I believe everyone has bad habbits...what about cell phone users NOT paying attention?? That kills too!

everyone should be treated the same none of us are perfect

I'm not trying to justify that I'm a smoker- reread my original post. The point I am trying to make is that it's my decision whether I smoke or not. It isn't up to the government, my mom, my boss, or you - it's my choice. I'm not trying to tell you or anyone else how to live- please give me the same respect.

Why be sooo rude??? Let everyone choose as they see fit...

What part of that was "rude"?

People don't get to sit back and criticize the opinion of others without getting a comment in return.
This wouldn't be called a "discussion" if things worked that way.

You can review others comments on this thread and single them out for being "rude".
I wasn't rude.
I stated the truth.

I smoke and believe if I didn't I'd need a padded room somewhere. noway I comply fully with the new rules and regs for smoking without grumbling.

I do believe tho smokers are an easy target for getting folks elected and lining the pockets of our officials. I don't believe for one minute big brother gives a rats behind about my health. It is a smoke screen, pun intended, to appeal to the masses, that our elected officials are doing something about the health care crisis in this nation and all nonsmokers jumped on board with it and it has snowballed to the point that it is utterly ridiculous. If they cared about our health at all they would tackle the issue of insurance costs so high that most folks cannot afford it, including myself. Regulate the drug companies for their outlandish costs of medications that many elderly folks cannot afford on a fixed income. Most not-for-profit hospitals are a thing of the past. Medicine has become a big business. Those are the real health issues that need to be addressed, not a few smokers standing on a street corner, that nonsmokers now can easily avoid.

Sooner or later they'll figure they've regulated and taxed us about as far as we're willing to accept and target another population of our society they can exploit for their means. So eat up on those Big Macs and fries, or that Pepsi you're drinkin, you could be the next.
very, very, well put

I was merely making the point that some people don't feel exactly as you do...this does not make you right and the rest of the world wrong...I bet you drive while talking on your cell phone...

Dang!...I read the title of the thread and broke out my Bong....

My bad.

Slinking away to savour some luscious smoke away from the people who hate smoke......(Cigarettes people....yeah...cigarettes.......That is what I am smoking)

Seriously,....people who do smoke, I quite often find, are far more excepting and considerate of the non-smoker....than non-smokers are of those who smoke....perhaps thing are different where you guys live.

I don't assume my way is the right way. I'm just happy with the choices I have made in my life and I don't feel like I have "failed" at getting rid of an "outside substance" that controls me.

I have been on the hands free cell while driving. - Doesn't mean I'm addicted...or that I've tried to stop but couldn't.
If it was illegal- so be it. I would stop.
