Do you feel it unfair the way that the smoker is treated in society nowadays?

I do not smoke and if you do , please keep your distance from me : I do not need your stink around me .

i quit smoking about 9weeks ago...

and at that place that was formerly known as work..... smokers aucutualy got treated better than non smokers....

example.. i was a manager.. (salaried) when i smoked.. i ALWAYS got my break... occasionaly my boss would invite me to join her to discus work in the smoke lounge as well... so it was like getting additional breaks...

as soon as i quit smokeing everything changed...
i no longer got theextra breaks.... much less the regular ones... the non smoking lounge was always less entertining than the smokeing one.. and if i was on break at the same time as asmokeing manager... and they called for a manager... it was always me that had to take the call because i wouldnt be waisting a cig. and they would...

it goes both ways.... sometimes people are just treated badly...

they get what they deserve, for killing themselves and people around them

That may be true but a lot of people are killed by drunk drivers or abused by alcoholics and no one is ostracizing drinkers...

Thanks for that.

Yikes...my husband died of lung cancer at age 37 and I've NEVER felt like he killed himself. He made stupid choices, gave in to addiction etc...but I don't for a SEC believe they get what they deserve!

OUCH!
...unfortunately he DID make that choice!
People that don't want to have to worry about lung cancer at 37 shouldn't be subjected to being around those that WANT to smoke.
Bartenders have to make a living...that doesn't mean they have to inhale all that nasty smoke.

I am very sorry for your loss.

You make it sound so simply.

This is a hurtful subject for you so out of respect, I will drop it.

Again,
I am sorry for your lossflowerforyou

I very much appreciate your kindness. I really do understand that choices are made, and the outcome is from said choice. I really do. Perhaps just too difficult to handle that it was still deserved, ya know how that can feel. Thanks again! flowerforyou

Mind you, there is still no solid proof that smoking causes cancer. It is the pre-dispositioned mind that creates the danger and the hypochondriac person in side of people.
If you want to be sick, you WILL be sick!
There is much power in the mind and more people need to think of that rather than whining about the elements that we have already been pre-disposed to. Period!

Sorry but I have to totally disagree with you here.. we get at least 1-2 patients a month that we find lung cancer in.. and guess what? THEY SMOKE or did in the past!! And one patient was married to a smoker so therefore was exposed to second hand smoke... so believe what you want and I pray the power of your mind keeps you healthy!

Still not proven honey...an elderly smoker and his wife in their 80's still live around me. No diagnosis as of yet. Explain that one...both are healthy and vital citizens.

ACtually around 85% of lung cancers ARE caused by smoking. Along side and almost equally important is a predispostion or family gene to it. Would explain why George Burns smoked til he was 100 yrs old and never developed lung cancer, and my husband died at age 37.

I agree Connie! Just like breast cancer.. just because no one in your family has never had it does not mean you won't get it! I hear this from women all the time.. I don't need a mammo because no one in my family has ever had it.. stupidity can kill noway

OK, what would you call this? My Grandma quit smoking when she was 75 and died at 93 of Alzheimer's. My Dad had 9 brothers and sisters, 7 of whom smoked. Most of their spouses smoked. I think about 75% of my 40 cousins smoke, along with their spouses. I'm 42 years old, and no one in my family has lung cancer.

I'm really not trying to that argumentative here. It's just that there are other carcinogens, I believe, that cause lung cancer, or it's genetic.

One guy I dated that was also widowed, lost his 34 yr old wife to breast cancer! 34! She was of Asian decent which has a low low occurance of breast cancer. She had breast fed both of her babies which is suppose to be a plus. Her age said she shouldn't have been someone to get it, AND no family history at all. She was dead in two months.

Dae, some things you just can't explain. But I agree I do think although most lung cancers are caused by smoking, that there HAS to be another factor involved.

Dana Reeves comes to mind.
