They are responding to a threat initiated by Bush, and since NATO 's main supporter and Russia's Cold War adversary was NATO and the US, they are saying hey, remember us? We wont stand by while you do this! What do you expect them to do? Act like a civilized country. If they don't act like that, why treat them like one? A threat of a DEFENSE shield, does Russia want one as well and are having a fit because they are a country that has fallen so behind to what they had once been? You think Russia would truly threaten the entire European Union because of a missile DEFENSE shield? They aren't stupid. They will stand by and will do nothing besides wave around their outdated weapons and through nostalgic war parades. |

I get amazed at the lack of understanding the younger generation has about the Cold war.
How Russia outnumbered all of NATO 12 to 1, and the miles of bunkers and landmines stretching across central Europe! Ballistic missiles and Nuke subs roaming the seas! They see the US military dominance and easy victories of our military going almost unopposed against the midget incapable Armies of the ME, and know nothing about our indominance against the USSR! |

I think they forget a Russia still has thousands of Nukes and military technology that almost equals ours.
They dont even imagine that in WWII the US's 450 thousand casualties are dwarfed by Russia's 11 million! |

One more problem for Europe is that Russia has a lot of natural gas resources, and it can be really cold winter next year if Russia don't deliver gas... od course they would not do that for economic reasons :) But again Russians are craze :D

But, Bush is a danger, and he has weakened our military. We could lose a lot of ground and Europe could return to the divide that existed for 50 years! Not military ground, but ground toward world peace! Maybe that's what we need to keep Presidents like Bush from being so aggressive! Its hard to invade little countries like Iraq, Syria, and Iran when you are forced to maintain a half million troops in Europe! That's just the US commitment! |

russia is blowing smoke ..probally at our asking them to. Thier really is no need of the US even putting missiles over thier.. That is a smoke screen technology..
If Russia did try to attack they would have missiles planes whatever blown up in thier country. Not much talk about the F35c stealth fighter bomber. The pilot wears a special helmet kinda like these glasses where you can watch a movie. He can fire automatically from the computer or manually. The plane caries air to air missles. Can shoot down a plane as soon as radar see them. If a missle happens to lock on to them again the plane takes control rolls and fires a laser to take it out. As he is flying he has camera's all over his plane and at least 12 lasers to take out close planes or missiles. This plane is very sofisticated and this is just what they have said.. not very loudly but they have.. They also have a new plane that is about the size of a 747. It has a power plant on it. It has only 1 laser that i know of on its nose that can lock on and shoot 180 degrees in any direction their of. This plane would also take out any missile that Russia may shoot. Iran says they will control the straight of Hormutz if attacked. they test fired missiles today in my opinion to try to get us to shoot one down to see what we have .. It did not happen. They could never block the straight of Hormutz as we have fighters ready just for that at all times. I was on the Rapid deployment force of the Reagan admin and know alot about that strait. That is what we were for. I worry more about what our own country plan is for us than any country taking us on. We watched the Gulf war of 91 and seen new technology that we still do not have in the general public yet. What do you think we really have? |

You evidently forget or dont know that Russia can jam most of the technical crap you just mentioned making that airplane as useless as a VW bus!
Where you ever in Europe during the cold war miles? We had anti aircraft missile batteries everywhere and alerts once every couple weeks? The Russians could have been bombing our military bases within 8 min of deciding to! We had charges in place in predetermined strategic locations, and pre-dug fighting positions everywhere! Even with 400,000 Us Army troops, countless Air Force wings, and hundreds of thousands of NATO member troops, we were still outnumbered 12 to 1! The plan was to fight a delaying action meant to hang on for 90 days. Long enough for 190,000 US troops to be trained and start arriving to draw equipment that was stored over in France for just such a need! For 90 days our orders were to hold on and fight a delaying action to the last man! HOLD ON to the last man! Now you make it sound so easy! |

They are the biggest superpower at the moment and the idea that we dont know what the sneaky sods are up to, gives us food for thought. But then it depends on what is going on in the background. Politicians dont make good diplomats and diplomats make the ideas work. |

The U2 used to be state of the art in its time, and yet the Russian demonstrated the ability to shoot them down! Dont take our superiority over Iraq for granted! Russia is not Iraq! |
