A 45 yr old woman, gets stalked and shot to death by local supermarket worker.

Spends 3 minutes 24 seconds on a call with 911 operators;
1 - who at no time during the call take notes
2 - ask if she speaks spanish (WTF) she was speaking English all along (does it F'ing matter)
3 - granted the cell phone signals got bounced around

but I think this was handled inappropriately but this is just my opinion... what do you think?

Government employees are often the most inept and rude people around.

"In its totality, I think we did a good job," he said. "I think the actions of the dispatcher were certainly reasonable. I'm standing behind her. I know she took a beating in the press for it, and it's unfortunate. It's a tough job."

Seems the news media, etc. always has to be criticizing someone just for the sake of a story or attention.

So you agree, 3 minutes 24 seconds is enough time to not tell caller what she's asking - whereabouts of police station? and I am perplexed as to why if a caller is speaking in English would the operator want/need to know if she also spoke spanish?

If she was panicking and couldn't speak English good in the first place the question do you speak Spanish may be an important question. You'd have to hear the conversation to really judge, but I cant think of any other reason for the question since the dispatcher wasn't a Latino!
In all fairness, it may also be why the 9-11 dispatcher took so long to get information and help faster! 3 min is not a very long time really!

I did hear the actual 911 recording, thought I posted that link as well, maybe not, sorry.

She spoke English well and understandable.

Do you really think 3min 24sec is not a long time to be with an operator, who never took time to log in call until after shots were heard? Guess I just assumed, as calls came into 911 stations they were automatically recorded and logged. I have heard parents tell me personally that their kids played on their home phones and dialed 911 and within minutes (without communication w/operator) the police were at their door following up. I could be wrong which is why I am asking for feedback.

Thanks Fanta flowerforyou

I haven't heard the call. I just read the transcript!

When you figure the woman was panicking and didn't state street names as she passed them (could be because she was panicking) even though she obviously lived in that town.

The call was originally to someone in another town (an untrained telephone operator not a police dispatcher), and that she kept saying he was holding her at gunpoint (not true, they were in different cars)
No 3 min is not long.

Some of the fault has to be hers! She should have remained calm, known where the local police station was, or at the least kept driving until she found a cop car!

She should never have gotten out of the car until then, or drove right up to the police station door, or drove around the parking lot blowing her horn. I dont care who you are you cant out run a bullet!

It was an unfortunate event filled with many mistakes. Many of them hers, and many of them the telephone companies. I dont think either the dispatcher or the operator are really to fault!

Respect your response (especially since it was polite:wink:)

People who are scared and panicked can be difficult to understand (granted) but I read and re read the call myself (after hearing it) and I truly just cant account or understand the response given.

I am not trained nor do I have "any" legal background, just going with my gut. It is unfortunate it ended how it did. I say I would have reacted differently (but who really knows).

Who are we calling when we dial 911?

It's different with a cell phone than a land line.
With a cell phone the call must be triangulated between two, preferably three towers to locate the caller. This takes a minute or two at best and she was moving which makes it harder.
The dispatcher, even though there was a cop standing there, probably waiting to go and assist, had no way of knowing where to send the cop.
She didn't know where the caller was or which police station she was headed to! What could she do?
Do you have a link to the recording?

Its sad, but of course they must find a scapegoat!

Its really a shame that people feel a need to grieve by suing others!

I agree, people play off the system ridiculously. When they stop grieving they begin to plan vacations (jmo)

I still dont think the operator handled the call properly/did not get results but like I stated earlier I have no police background nor legal background (so what do I know).

One night years ago, me and my brother were at a bar. When it closed and we were going to the car we heard some strange sounds, like a girl whimpering!

When we went to check it out we saw a dude pulling the shirt over a girls head. He had the shirt held tightly half on half off kinda gagging her as he was attempting to rape her!

We were like, HEY DUDE!! which startled him and he let her go. She got up off the ground and came running over towards me while I approached the man! Her face was bleeding and her eyes were half closed. He had obviously been beating her!

This might be a long story! Do you want to hear it?
