ok seriously, i am 23, and i was dating a man that is now 38. we dated for exactly 3 years. he has 2 kids and has never been married.......marriage was always a difficult topic for him. everytime i even mentioned it, he would change the subject, or make a joke out of it. i doubt he is ever going to get married. but me on the other hand.....why is it so hard for me to find a man that is great on every level (like he was), but isnt afraid of commitment!!?!>!? grrrr, just ignore me. im just upset that im the only one left out of my circle of friends who isnt married....
so, why the fear of commitment huh??

Not everyone wants or needs marriage. It's within your right to inquire. If a person says they are not interested, take it for face value. If you are marriage-oriented, you should not waste your time on someone who is not. My aunt, (RIP), never could figure out a reason to bother with marriage. Lived a full, fruitful, lusty life!!! Just didn't want that commitment! flowerforyou

Alot of men feel as though they cant be with just one woman and be happy. They want to feel free that if things arent going the way they want, that gives them an easy way out to go looking for greener pastures. Not to say all men are like this..but a majority.

its the boredom factor...we age, we grow comfortable..we grow apart...me are transcient, we seek adventures, if we become bored we reach out and find other things to do and chase...(don't shoot the messenger)

From my time discussing this with male friends, the problem is for them that they take commitment VERY seriously. The ones who seem to be afraid of it, are not really afraid, they are taking the vows completely and utterly seriously. These are men who really do not believe in divorce, once they are married they will stay married come hell or high water. So they will not marry lightly, nor quickly. It will be a long long process for them. She will have to be extremely patient and understanding. These men are looking for all the signs of problems coming up and they figure give someone enough time and space and they will hang themselves if they are prone to doing so.

Of course, that is the ones that I know and I cannot claim to know them all, so the scope is limited by the survey pool.bigsmile

Good question. Commitment can be a cruel thing I guess. I mean once you have made the commitment what then? What if you happen to change your mind after you have made the commitment? Should you back out of it? Its a commitment and you just can't back out of it can you? You can't just say, "Hey, I changed my mind." Because you made a commitment if you did that people would think you are a liar. After all you made a commitment and the time to back out should of been before you made the commitment shouldn't it? Once you made the commitment your fate is sealed. Unless, of course you choose divorce but then once you get a divorce you have backed out of a commitment haven't you? Commitment then is logically impossible to do.
