So, because a person made bad choices, then paid for said bad choices, he/she should continue to pay ad infinitum? And we are qualified to pass judgment on his decisions how? Not ME, it's the law.. Go to jail (which means under one year) and you can have a gun. Go to prison( One year or more) and you can't ever have anything to do with firearms ever again. That's the law, Congress passed it, not elwood.. |

Just got married...wants to join the army...wife supports decision. Just my opinion, but it doesn't make any sense. How come a newly married man would want to go and join the military (fire arm issue aside)???? Me thinks it would be more enjoyable to be with a new wife then a butch of men in a baracks.

I was more interested in the fact that we are even discussing this man's decisions. Right, he needs to pay the consequences, which, in this case include the inability to bear arms. But to pass judgment on him and his desire to pursue what he wants to do isn't palatable to me. |

The military was a good life to/for me for the nine years that I was in it. Tell your brother that he needs to pack some sunblock, cuz he has a 80-90 % chance of getting deployed to the middle east as soon as he's done with his training. Right now, in Iraq, it is 125, yes 120 flippin 5 degrees, and the next call for rain is January.

Ten years means a class X felony. The military doesn't absorb class X. Dui's, battery,assault,drugs,yes.. But not class X. And the ATF wouldn't clear him for the FOID card anyway. If it's a recruiter telling him that, then that's his job. They tell everybody that. Oh and about the wife telling him to go, maybe she's already sick of him and that's her way of getting rid of him? |

A) Why go into the military? Why is it that you can't wait the seven years and then petition for your rights like everyone else?
B) What does being married have to do with anything? C) What's the rush for a gun? |

what do you think of a 40 year old man just got of prison after 10 years.he's been out for 2 years now just got married in may this year. he wants to go in the army just to get his gun rights back. and his wife tells him to go she backs him up100%. I'd say that you don't have long to live after you take out the insurance policy. Besides, the military isn't too responsive to felons. Otherwise, they would reinstate conscription. |

Makes one wonder about her motives. Realize that may sound judgemental. But, think everyone needs to take three steps back and do a reality check. Promise them anything - but give them Iraq. |

Hang in there. There is a Higher Power with more intellegence than the military or the government. Remember a soft voice is heard better than a loud voice. |

Depends and If I missed it I apologize, but it depends on what he was in jail FOR does it not? I don't think some are able to have firearms, ever and for good reason.
