As an engineer/scientist and someone who has actually done his homework on the subject of second hand smoke, the reality is it would take massive amounts of prolonged exposure to put anyone at risk. The air in California is more toxic.
However, in light of the fact that the average American is not aware of this fact, and believes everything they read, I choose to smoke away from people (including complete strangers) out of a general respect for people who don't like the smell. |

As an engineer/scientist and someone who has actually done his homework on the subject of second hand smoke, the reality is it would take massive amounts of prolonged exposure to put anyone at risk. The air in California is more toxic. However, in light of the fact that the average American is not aware of this fact, and believes everything they read, I choose to smoke away from people (including complete strangers) out of a general respect for people who don't like the smell. i agree.....i had to smoke away from my ex-wife and i never smoke around my son and with everyone on a hate smokers trip it has almost become easier to smoke under my bed with the lights out |

I have no kids, but hypothetically speaking, if I did, I would prefer they not smoke, but would gladly light their cigar/cigarette if they did. My dad has diabetes, my mom has lupus, I'm insane, and my brother is agoraphobic. Illness happens. I guess I'd feel the same way if they got sick from drinking, breathing in PVC fumes in an extrusion blow molding facility, exposure to radiation from a cellphone or smoke detector, or playing too much Nintendo Wii... |

My dad died of lung and stomach cancer. I was 10. My mom died of breast cancer. The double masectomy she had 10 years earlier wasn't sufficient. I was 20. Smoking sucks for those left behind let me tell you. |

This is supposed to be the home of the free. Now a lot of people are getting on others for their smoking, not wearing seat belts. What happened to the constitution? I ran into a lady the other day from Russia in the store, did not know her from Adam, but I can be friends with anybody. She was tellig me, she moved here 10 years ago, before the seat belt kick, before the smoking ban, before the DUI's got severe, she was saying that the Russia compared to the USA has twice the fredom. And I believe her. Do you non-smokers know how much tax money is generated from sales of cigerattes and booze, go ahead, play around and stop all that, and pay out your rear and work for nothing in life except to pay taxes. If you people who don't smoke don't wanna be around me when I have a cigarette in my hand, don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out, hell, I'll even hold it open for you to get out. I won't give up my right as an American to live the way I want to. I went to nam in 1972, and fought for all Americans, so don't anyone tell me I am not for this country, thats trying its damndest to push me out.
