Topic: how some pigs live their lives | |
---|---|
Do you know how pigs in the U.S. live their lives?
Fact #1: In the U.S., more than 97 percent of pigs—smart, social, interesting animals—are raised on factory farms. This means they spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy warehouses, where they never see the sun or breathe fresh air. Because of their hideous living conditions, more than 70 percent of the pigs have pneumonia by the time they are kicked and prodded onto trucks bound for slaughterhouses. Breeding sows are imprisoned in metal gestation crates so small that they can't even turn around or take a single step—many develop painful sores and bruises from being immobilized on a hard surface. Shortly after giving birth, they are forcibly impregnated again. This cycle continues for years until their bodies finally give out and the animals are sent to slaughter. |

If you want to watch something to understand what duffy is speaking about. Google earthlings and watch the first one there. I still like ham.

I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat lettuce. When I sink my teeth into a pork chop I really don't care if the pig had a happy life. They are intelligent social animals though one of them is the Senior Senator from Massachusetts

When we raised pigs on the farm for our own food, we did not treat them that bad. As stewards of this planet we should not allow that kind of treatment of anything even animals for food. Sad, that humans have lost their humanity. Arrogance and disrespect for life are part of the problems in this country.

Sad, that humans have lost their humanity. that is humanity we need to get back to caring for one another across the board humans are among the meanest greediest beings ever created some image to be created in (just an after thought) |

I worked on one of those factory farms its not as bad as you claim. 1. pigs are a social creature providing them with other pigs creates that 2 we had a 4% sick rate its not that bad just some ppl dont care for the animals to be good at it you really just have to care about what you are doing 3 the way we had it set up was to mock their natural life though it was in a pen it still provided the necessity to make them happy

Pigs are animals, not only that they are bred and raised for consumption. I understand caring for pets and animals who's purpose is for companionship, but I think it's just wrong that you care so much about the pig when its purpose is to be EATEN. That being said you need to visit a feed lot in southern iowa. My neighbor not only raises his animals with care, but he does it in a way that we hardly ever smell the crap the pigs make.

For now, until they raise that, too. Lookee here: http://www.kolotv.com/news/headlines/18655654.html |
