Topic: Polygamists in Texas | |
---|---|
Has anyone been following the polygamist thing in Texas. I think they are a cult and child abusers for forcing young girls into marriage. However, I don't have a problem with poligamy per se. If it were consenting adults. Should it be illegal? Not that I would do it myself, but different strokes for different folks right? I would like to hear what others think about the subject.

Having multiple wives has to be better than one wife and several girlfriends.

I suppose so. At least it would be out in the open.

I wonder if these women in Texas would be poligamist if they were not forced into it young. Easier to brainwash that way.

I agree. Adults wanting more that one husband or wife should be noone elses business. Have as many as you want. When underage children are involved then it becomes everyones business. They try to use the marriage as a "legal" way to be pediphiles and that is not cool.

I know many states have a legal age to marry. But I think maybe parents can waive it. Maybe that is what is happening here. Perhaps parents should not be allowed to waive the age limit right.

Not that I'm defending polygamy or these cultists, but the government was pretty much out of line by raiding that compound and taking children away from their own parents. The other factors are irrelevant when you put it in the context of an abuse of policing power.

the police were acting on reports of child abuse. one of the calls was allegedly from a girl in the compound that was 16 now but married and pregnant at 15.
in that case to investigate, there was no abusing police power. it was protecting the children |

SEE how soon we label such places? i will wait for the courts definition, as i dont believe anything i hear on the news or from the cops. the latest "news" is that the origional call was a prank. |

a compound is nothing more than a fenced or walled-in area containing a group of buildings and especially residences. not a bad word

Err, have you seen this place? I can't think of a better word than compound. There's nothing wrong with it being one, I was just saying. |

when the police/ media start calling YOUR house a compound, look out. yup. Ive been there. My farm was a compound according to the newspapers here.
in reality a compound is a label affixed to a place that the powers that be want you to hate, regardless of the dictionary meaning. Remember the COMPOUND at waco? No fence. Rember the COMPOUND at Ruby Ridge? no fence, just a cabin in the mountains where a woman was maliciously and without provocation nursing her baby on a porch.... Shall i continue? The ATF was "protecting the childern" when it raided and later burned 80 people alive, including 18 childern. Hmmmm |

all im saying is that before i form any opinion, i will wait for due process.

Well, even if it does turn out that in this particular case, there was no child abuse. We have heard of the child abuse occuring in other polygimist situations. It is fairly well known. I am all for personal rights, but child abuse is something that should be investigated.

keep in mind the media can put twists to everything....including WACO. i live an hour from waco and was in town on that day. all you can trust are facts not opinions or twists. fact is they were under investigation for a while when they got a call about sexual abuse and rape. and i believe there are under age mom's found. the courts and dna will prove one thing or another. but what would the public say if they did nothing after getting the reports????? they would say the cops didn't protect the children. things are investigated first and warrants issued like it or not...there are laws even if you feel they are wrong. if you choose to break the law...not be surprised when caught. polygamy is illegal in texas. kids can't marry under 16 even with parents consent. if someone doesn't like it...nothing is forcing them to stay. i have no problem with polygamy but it's the law |

The polygamists and those who support the right to their 'lifestyle' can't have it both ways.
If you allow polygamy, then you allow the polygamists to use underage girls as breeders. |
