gay marriages are not recognized here...again...the law...like it or not. if you don't like the laws....do something...otherwise live with them. the only time i think marriages should be illegal is for children

Yea but laws are ultimately placed by a restricted group of people, and some of those laws have been around forever. Its not like these people were legally married, and if they were then theres another strike against our government for not realizing one man married 17 women (or however many there were). As far as underage pregnancies, some states have maternity leave in high schools now. No one is going around arresting the 15 or 16 yr old guy who got the 15 or 16 yr old girl pregnant. If that were the case they would have locked me up 14 yrs ago when I had my son at 16.

People believe differently. Yea I think its bizzare, but its what they know and believe. My two best friends are a lesbian couple. They are the most die hard, incredible people I know. I would be offended if someone said it was illegal for them to be together. We have been raised in a society that makes this wrong. Catholocism is just as bizzare if you think about it. Catholics BOUGHT TICKETS to see the Pope. If God is supposed to be the end all, mighty one...why are people confessing sins to a priest and buying tickets to be in a room with the Pope?
I don't think polygamy should be illegal, but I don't think parents should be marrying off underage girls either. Young girls are impressionable. I know, I was one a million years ago. Someone has to look out for their best interest if there parents will not.

under the age of 16...they can not get married in texas without a court order. they were new to that area.

Texas: The age is 18 without from a parent or your legal guardian. If under the age of 16, the law requires that the couple receives a court order before being allowed to marry.

fanta...am i your only worthy opponent???? lol is that why you argue with me???? lol. don't forget who won the last ones lol...kisses

They had been in that town for a little over a year, but they have been in Texas since 2004.

Im just saying everyone has their own beliefs. I believe these people know that the "outside world" considers it wrong/illegal. But this isn't the only Polygamist community around either. I watched a whole documentary recently about an entire neighborhood, 100+ "families" that live like this.

We have middle eastern women living in our country walking around fully draped, because its not acceptable to show their skin in their society. They are here now and stick to what they believe, even though they have the freedom to wear tiny tanks and shorts..they dont. The things these people are doing are illegal because we made them illegal. I just think we may have done more harm than good by disrupting what was going on. I would put money on at least one of those 500 kids ending up worse off. Suicide, abuse, taking a beating from someone in a public school because of where they came from....

Most of these these young girls are raised within the polygamist cult run by a leader who believes that marrying off someone's 13 year old daughter to some man old enough to be her grandfather is ok.

The parents will do whatever their polygamist leader tells them to do.

mnhiker...in all fairness...that call wasn't made by a 16 yr old girl in the compound. it was made from CO (again headquarters are in CO...but that is only a coincidence...not proof...yet lol)

fanta...this time..was right about that lol

And the man lives in Arizona, and
they had been in contact with him before the raid.

Oh yeah,
did I mention he has still not been arrested.........

Many of these daddies are 19-24 too.
And the parents knew it when they allowed them to date.

Some of these boys are 12th graders dating freshmen girls, who are still underage when the boy is 21!

Who said these girls babies daddy isn't 16?
Do you have information I haven't read, or are you just making an assumption?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24014376/

keep in mind the media can put twists to everything....including WACO. i live an hour from waco and was in town on that day. all you can trust are facts not opinions or twists. fact is they were under investigation for a while when they got a call about sexual abuse and rape. and i believe there are under age mom's found. the courts and dna will prove one thing or another. but what would the public say if they did nothing after getting the reports????? they would say the cops didn't protect the children. things are investigated first and warrants issued

like it or not...there are laws even if you feel they are wrong. if you choose to break the law...not be surprised when caught. polygamy is illegal in texas. kids can't marry under 16 even with parents consent. if someone doesn't like it...nothing is forcing them to stay. i have no problem with polygamy but it's the law

Rose, This is old news. They have tracked the number of that call to a woman in Colo. That woman has a history of making bogus phone calls.

www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24014376/

But today, after working off a warrant without cause, they found that 31 of 53 teen girls, 14-17, from the compound are pregnant or are already mothers!

Y'all need to keep up! Even this is old news!

lol fanta....give it time. where did a man in AZ come from....didn't you say before it was a 50 yr old woman in CO????? it just recently happened so not old news

this is on Warren Jeffs...leader who is in jail now

http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/fugitives/cac/jeffs_ws.htm

i stand corrected on 1 thing. ONE of the locations of the headquarters was in CO...among many other places. they kept moving....wonder why. the newest location was eldorado texas

lol fanta...keep up here. i said dna tests will prove one way or another. if it's 2 minors...then that's different...if it's a minor and adult...then that's illegal. age of consent in texas is 17

Whaaaa? How could Fox News have missed this?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,352332,00.html

What Fox News DIDN'T report is that Rozita Swinton is an OBAMA DELEGATE FOR EL PASO COUNTY IN COLORADO!!!

Does this mean Obama favors illegal raids and suppressing the rights of individual due process?

I notice in most of the news stories that they call most of the marriages "spiritual" marriages. I am somewhat familiar with the beliefs of this group, and they differentiate between spiritual and temporal marriages. They believe that one must be "sealed" to a member of the opposite sex in order to achieve the highest level of Heaven. Women have the option of performing this ceremony with a male who is already deceased in order to become eligible to enter this level. An understanding of this bulwark of their belief is necessary to understand the polygamy thing.

and from the numbers and stats quoted in this thread, It seems to me that they have a lower rate of teen age pregnancy than the general US population. That is why the news media is so fascinated by it.....they are wanting to "improve" thos kids lives so they can be like the rest of us:angry:

i don't agree with the laws against polygamy or gay marriages as long as all parties are consenting adults and of legal age or have the proper authority (ie....parents consent...court order etc)
