keep in mind the media can put twists to everything....including WACO. i live an hour from waco and was in town on that day. all you can trust are facts not opinions or twists. fact is they were under investigation for a while when they got a call about sexual abuse and rape. and i believe there are under age mom's found. the courts and dna will prove one thing or another. but what would the public say if they did nothing after getting the reports????? they would say the cops didn't protect the children. things are investigated first and warrants issued

like it or not...there are laws even if you feel they are wrong. if you choose to break the law...not be surprised when caught. polygamy is illegal in texas. kids can't marry under 16 even with parents consent. if someone doesn't like it...nothing is forcing them to stay. i have no problem with polygamy but it's the law

Rose, This is old news. They have tracked the number of that call to a woman in Colo. That woman has a history of making bogus phone calls.

www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24014376/

But today, after working off a warrant without cause, they found that 31 of 53 teen girls, 14-17, from the compound are pregnant or are already mothers!

Y'all need to keep up! Even this is old news!

OOps,

Two of those are pregnant now, he said; (sheriff) it was unclear whether either of those two already have children.

Sorrybigsmile

Fanta,

What disgusts me is why people would even support the polygamists 'right' to their 'lifestyle' when they force underage girls into marriage.

I have a problem with taking 463 kids away from the only lifestyle they know, seperating them and placing them in foster homes with people who will likey mistreat them horribly. I know to us what was going on was wrong, but Id rather have a pregnant young girl on my hands than a beaten bloody, violently sexually abused one. Seems like the latter is what comes of children from foster homes.

no....foster care is NOT all of that. there are good and bad everywhere. point is...laws were broken whether people argee with the laws or not

so if they are used to the lifestyle of say...slavery...then they should be left there because they are used to it? and it's ok to get underage girls pregnant?

I figure we have a very large group of bored, under informed people in this country with nothing better to do than stick their noses into others business. The cops and the press know that with just a few key words, they can get a whirlwind started where everything is blown out of proportion from Maine to California.

Just like now. People arguing over month old, outdated news! Have any of these people talking about it been hurt by it?
Would any of these people even have heard about it, or even realized there were things like this happening anywhere, if the press had not carried it on every channel.

Hell fire, the one who made the call wasn't even from the same State, let alone the same town!

The law said that 3 yrs ago or so when these folk moved to Texas, what they were doing wasnt against the law.
13? was the age with parental consent!

fanta...the compound was new to texas and purchased in november by the headquarters in CO....so maybe someone knew something??? yes they went about the call wrong...but maybe they knew the girl???? plus they had been under investigation for 4 yrs prior (and they weren't living there at the time) they had an inside informant.

sorry...when kids are being sexually abused...i have no problem stopping it. just wonder why they came to texas lol

Everyone has their own lifestyle and beliefs. I HATE dishes being dirty. Its not tolerated in my house. You want to leave your counter full of dirty dishes...thats your business. Who am I to say you can't. I realize we have created laws that make it illegal for these people to do what they were doing. But they weren't knocking on my door shoving polygamy down my throat like the jahovas witnesses and baptists do. I have strayed entirely from organized religion and kept my kids far away from it for this reason. Its okay for a man to cheat on his wife and get 4 other women pregnant, but if hes Morman...its illegal?

Fanta,

They've been investigating this cult for years, but couldn't do anything because they had no legal grounds.

What led to the raid was a 'phone call from a terrified 16-year-old girl to a family-violence shelter to report that her 50-year-old husband had beaten and raped her', according to CBS News.

under the age of 16...they can not get married in texas without a court order. they were new to that area.

Texas: The age is 18 without from a parent or your legal guardian. If under the age of 16, the law requires that the couple receives a court order before being allowed to marry.

fanta...am i your only worthy opponent???? lol is that why you argue with me???? lol. don't forget who won the last ones lol...kisses

Kravynn...i HARDLY think that doing dishes is the same as getting underage girls pregnant. whether you have a problem with polygamy or not (i have no problem if it's consent of ADULTS) but like it or not...just like the pot laws...it's the law. you break it...you buy it

It doesn't matter what the age of consent is in Texas, a man beating and raping a girl or woman, even if it's his 'wife' is illegal.

mnhiker...in all fairness...that call wasn't made by a 16 yr old girl in the compound. it was made from CO (again headquarters are in CO...but that is only a coincidence...not proof...yet lol)

fanta...this time..was right about that lol

Yea but laws are ultimately placed by a restricted group of people, and some of those laws have been around forever. Its not like these people were legally married, and if they were then theres another strike against our government for not realizing one man married 17 women (or however many there were). As far as underage pregnancies, some states have maternity leave in high schools now. No one is going around arresting the 15 or 16 yr old guy who got the 15 or 16 yr old girl pregnant. If that were the case they would have locked me up 14 yrs ago when I had my son at 16.

People believe differently. Yea I think its bizzare, but its what they know and believe. My two best friends are a lesbian couple. They are the most die hard, incredible people I know. I would be offended if someone said it was illegal for them to be together. We have been raised in a society that makes this wrong. Catholocism is just as bizzare if you think about it. Catholics BOUGHT TICKETS to see the Pope. If God is supposed to be the end all, mighty one...why are people confessing sins to a priest and buying tickets to be in a room with the Pope?

you do realize that 2 kids having sex that ends up in pregnancy...is different than an adult getting a child pregnant...correct????

regardless of who likes what....the law is the law...until it's changed...follow it or don't complain when you get caught or do something to change it.

because states don't recognize polygamy is why there is only 1 legal spouse but common law marriage exists too and in their eyes...the other women are their spouses
