tina...my advice to you (as a mom) would be to talk to your child (like you are just interested in the day at school) and find out what was said. it maybe that what was mentioned stuck in the brain. if one thing was said...go to the teacher to find out their story. if it matches then you know how to deal with it. if not then it's he said/she said thing and i would just tell the teacher...ok, i misunderstood then. and i just want to make sure my child is getting all sides if it is being discussed.

Good advice Roseflowerforyou

Now watch the video. These children dont have a choice!

ty fanta but i don't need to see a video of other children. parents from all sides of politics, religion, etc can force their views.

i'm not one of those mom's. my son knows what i believe and feel but i have taught him to be his own man and get all facts before deciding. Adam doesn't even get into the peer pressure of smoking, drugs or drinking. he decides for himself things and someone calling him chicken or whatever (he's 17 now) doesn't phase him because i brought him up to be his own man and to accept any results of his choices in life. I am just a guide for him while he is underage...

This topic really wasn't about "the war" per se but rather about whether or not it was appropriate for a teacher to walk her students into a rather cynical view without context or the addressing of the complexities that all conflicts center around.

The issues around the war are brought up to 9 year olds how about something a little more balanced--at least to the extent that such is possible.

Fanta--there are many threads out there about the war in a more general sense--maybe this thread should be more about the issue at hand--which in this case was whether or not it was appropriate for the teacher to put this subject out there to young kids in such a loaded way?

my question is was the teacher asked by the kids what she thought about the war?i think its okay for the teacher to share her opinion as long as she says its her opinion. It's good to discuss things.Makes them less scary.

I agree.

I'm sorry this happended to you. Teachers need to keep their personal views out of the classroom. Have you contacted the Principal? He/she needs to be aware that this is occuring. Your child and other children deserve to be taught the facts. It is the parents' perrogative what views to instill in the children.
