hmmmmm, I can see this turning into another liberal/conservative hum drum argument. Can't say as I think the papers and news agencies tell the whole story. You really need to go out and buy some real reading material to get the whole picture of what goes on in Iraq from start till now. Not as simple as "War for Oil".

hmmm...then whats it about???

so...should this war not even be talked about in school??? I'm just confused

At a level that a 9 year old would understand, not an adult's single opinion. A child should be able to be fully educated on the facts and stats of this war so they can make their own opinion rather then one single adult trying to influence their's...If it cant be expalined at their level? Then no, it should not be discussed...Stick to Math

Of course it should be talked about. I think her point is, why should she inflict her belief and only hers on the kids. Is hers the only view of the situation? I agree, she should talk about broad based facts, not what her spin on it is.

i just think the teacher is using her position to influence the class.these kids think whatever the teacher says is right.i would bet most of the kids in the class didn't tell the parents about what the teacher said.i wonder how many other things this teacher has told the kids.

Time for a conference, voice your opinion and concern...

I do all the time with my Daughters teacher, called her today actually about lesbians and gay marriage...

This is not something they need to be discussing at this time and she is going to address it...Stand up and speak...Or it will never be known

I have stated why I think other reasons are in the current event forums. but the point is, the teacher is irresponsible for only teaching one side. I agree that they are too young to really get into that. It's like a teacher teaching creation but not anything else. or a teacher putting their own religious beliefs into things without considering that others don't share that view

it should be discussed at the level they understand. my son is a junior in HS and when they discuss it....they do it as a discussion forum and not listening to just one side. I don't push my beliefs on my son and I raised him to think for himself...but with all sides

but even the media...we all know they aren't biased don't we lol
the media slants things all the time to whichever side they want to. goes for all sides

it should be talked about just at a later age!

So, don't teach a kid about a war that's going on right now? Wait until later? Why?

Not a teachers place regardless of what the intent may be. Speak with the principal or school administrator.

you saying teachers dont have rights to express their opinions. last i checked this still was a democracy though that fact gets further skewed year after year. i guess most people want everyone to share the same beliefs and ideas. that sounds so communistic we as a society are heading towards that and its kinda scary.

Difference, a child's mind is easily consumed with such thoughts, typically a child doesn't start gaining independant ideas until the age of 15-16 until then their ideas are fueled by those around them...basic psychology.
