I do not feel our country is destroying itself. There are just a lot of people who do not care, would rather let someone else deal with the problem. Breakdown of the family is a major problem, could be because of lack of family values, people do not take marriage vows seriously and all the responsibility that comes with it.

People wanting someone else to deal with things - I am a big proponent of getting personal property taxes off of our personal homes. I keep in touch with my representatives for Pennsylvania and urge them to continue working on the problem. No one on my street wanted to take the time to fill out a questionaire our rep. sent to us asking our opinion on how to eliminate these taxes, what solution they would be in favor of, etc. NO one other than myself filled out the form and sent it back to our rep. YET, they all complain to you know where and back about the taxes. I finally told some of them to become active or shut up.

Talk about not accepting ones responsibility!
Who do you suppose is to pay for the services enjoyed by a home owner? The poor, the not so fortunate? You propose that everyone else finance the services for you. LMAO, this is about as hypocritical and contradictory a thing as Ive heard said.

The answer to this is Corporate politics and the politicians, like Hillary, they buy.
Even worse than that are the Bushes and the Cheney's who think the countries military is for their own personal interests.

No, No, the worst is the people, or should I say sheeple, who fall for the BS feed to them, and actually aide these politicians steal their children's and grand-children's future.

Not a debate. The rules are simple. I am going to ask a question, and I want your honest answer. I do not want a debate, just state your opinion, and let others state theirs as well. If you wish to debate about it, start your own thread PLEASE. This is just a q&a, trying to get a feel for the populace.

Q: This country is destroying itself because________________________

This country is full of people who only care about themselves. Americans are greedy and selfish, as individuals and in groups (corporate America).

People attempt to service the needs of the themselves, make themselves look good, then serve the needs of their company, and as an after thought try to spin it so it either looks good for the economy, for the environment, etc.

I do not think the resulting destruction is deliberate, but rather the result of apathy and ignorance. America has become like a drive through... quick and cheap.

yup, but instead of someone who will do something about that they want to vote for someone who makes the government even bigger and gives more handouts.

Ok this may piss people off, but hear me out.

Feminism: The liberation of the woman has had a significant impact on the family in America. With women working there tends to be a lack of parental guidance for the children. The care and raising of them has been delegated to others who just don't care or love them like their parents would. This would be fine if MEN also were able to adjust to this new situation, but we lag terribly behind. So this imbalance has caused havoc on the basic family structure. This in turn has allowed us to raise a generation of people who don't care because the absence of parents leaves a hole in their psyche for care, that bleeds over to their views on society as a whole.

corporate america sold the american women a bag of goods. They fostered the idea that a woman who was married, and had children was less important because a paycheck was not attatched to their job. The result has been families having less time to spend with their children, and the government interfering more and more with a families daily life. The current situation is a direct result of a majority government raised population. God bless the people who actually play a role in educating their own children

While I agree in many ways with this statement, I don't see feminism as the culprit, but rather the evolution of "my husband and the father of my children" to "my baby daddy". I see no reason why a liberated woman can't effectively run a household and raise her family, as long as she is willing to make the sacrifices herself instead of sacrificing her family to achieve both.

I would have to disagree with you there. While I certainly am not a christian conservative, they did not foster the ideals of single parent families, or push for women to leave their role as the family anchor

we have become to dependent on luxury items. Plus the cost of food/gas is skyrocketing. Put them together we have a major increase in cost of living. I think we can attribute this to being one of the major reasons that both parents work now.

Back in the 60's housewives thought they could go to work & raise thier families standard of living. Most did this with the goal of buying a house in a better nieghborhood. When more people could afford houses the laws of supply & demand caused prices to rise.

A working woman needs a car, insurance & gas for it, more & better clothes, maybe more trips to the salon to maintain a professional appearance. She has less time so she spends more on conviences. All the demand for these goods & services pushed the prices up. What once were extras became standards.

Two income families are the standard today & prices reflect that. The market has adjusted to this, & now 2 incomes are a nesscessity.
