My last girlfriend asked me this....i don't have an answer....she gave me a religious answer, "living your life for God"
she also said everything happens for a reason...

Now i disagree with both comments....I find it hard to believe that we have some special purpose & somehow, like a scientist we are supposed to discover what that purpose is....

I also don't think everything happens for a reason....I have seen pointless drive-by killings & read about other pointless murders & find it unbelievable that people think there is a purpose for something like that....

what are your thoughts? Do you have a Purpose? what is it? Does everything that happens happen for a reason?

Yep, I believe everything happens for a reason. People die in drive-bys for a reason. Senseless, yes. But darwin doesn't play around. He is evil!

I half agree w/you and half w/your gf. I WANT to believe everything happens for a reason, but the children's deaths, elderly women getting raped - what reason is that for? OK, maybe the child's death will bring the parents closer to God and the lady getting raped will put the rapist behind bars prohibiting him from doing it again.

For me, I know I have a purpose. To tell my story. I don't speak to crowds, I don't write books and I am not a therapist. But I have been to the Dark Side of the Moon many manty times, for many years at a time too.

So my purpose is to let people know where I was, what I did to change it, and where I am now. For me, that is fulfilling enough/.

I don't believe there is any purpose to life other than that which we choose to give it. I don't believe everything happens for a reason, because that requires, by definition, someone or something doing the reasoning, determining what the reasons are or will be. As I am not superstitious, I cannot attribute "motives" to someone/something which I do not believe exists.

I'm agnostic, so I believe the only real reason I'm alive is to pass on my genes to the next generation.

I believe everything does happen for a reason. When s#*t happens to me its usually a prod to go in a better direction. And its gets me down sometimes but then I realize that without that prod I'd still be in the same old rut. As far as that "living for God" thing, thats a personal decision.I personally don't; but I understand theres a hell of a lot in this universe that science can't begin to comprehend. And if you're an agnostic or aetheist you're on your own...

the purpose of life is the pursuit of happiness.

Now life or living many things can happen.

I believe we do our best in life, and all things we do is for us to be happy. The bad things that are done. Murders, Killings, ect...ect... They are also done for a reasons as a end result to make one happy.

Having a baby killed, or blowing up a plane to me or you or anyone else might not be happy or the pursuit of happiness yet to the one doing this task in some way of there mind it is.

I understand and believe GOD, has some huge plan with all of us. We just can not understand the process in which it takes.

I can not say why the 3 year old had to be tossed in the dumpster and I can not explain why a little girl was rapped and killed. Very bad acts happen to good people all the time why? I am not god its his big plan, I am just here for the ride.

But I can tell you this, everything we do in life is for a purpose and I believe in my heart it's for happiness. In some way or another how ever the act is done, its to be happy. Bad things come from this.

BTW, the jerk had a special purpose.

My purpose is to Love and be Loved.

And yes, in my life experience, I've found that there is a purpose to everything, and I mean everything that happens.

I've always heard everything happens for a reason. Just haven't figured out the reason for most of it.
