Not wishing to win you over. Merely hoping to spark conversation about what organized religion has contributed to Humankind through the ages.

That would be impossible to discuss. You can't know what influence a thing would have without knowing what the results would be without the thing. Pointless discussion. Besides, Atheist governments have killed more people than all religions combined. More people were killed by atheist dictatorships in the past 100 years than by all war (religious or not) in human history. Well over 100 million. Enviromental activism has killed more than any other force, well into the billions. The outlawing of DDT has killed millions due to malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, west nile and many other insect born diseases. Those who survive those diseases cause poverty to their families and governments because they are unable to work for months or even years. In fact, 80% of human diseases are carried by insects, which are killed by DDT. The statistics from the period of which the US used DDT shows that bird populations INCREASED, not decreased as some testified falsely before congress. You see, birds get sick too. And without parasites killing them, they lived longer, healthier lives.

So instead of talking about what the world would be like without religion (which we have no data to compare to), why not talk about a world without atheistic dictatorships or enviromental activists?

I just made a post in the thread, "To Proselytize or not to Proselytize" that speaks to this issue to some degree, you might find that post interesting. It's on the first page of that thread.

I'll repeat what I said: "Not wishing to win you over. Merely hoping to spark conversation about what organized religion has contributed to Humankind through the ages."

I said nothing about discussing what the world would be like without religion... And what up w/ this fascination w/ DDT?

I like people. DDT saved millions of lives in the US, but the US banned DDT and refused to trade or give money to any country that uses DDT. So 3+ million people die of malaria a year in 3rd world countries, because their governments can't use DDT. It's a serious crisis, but it's rarely talked about. Google DDT and you will see what I'm talking about. All the research shows that DDT should be legal, but environmentalists make sure that it isn't.

Nah. I get flamed for every thread I create. I was just pointing out the flaws in your original post and more important issues to humanity as a whole.

The problem with religion is: man made it, man ran it, man evolved in it, man organized it, man destroyed it. It once was a good thing, it saw profit and grew into something other than it was supposed to have been.

Same with DDT: man made it, man spread it, man got sick, and the invironment was harmed, it grew into something other than it was supposed to be.

Man screws up in the name of growth. Sooooo, man screws up. Ever reaching....ever ending. Out of the frying pan into the fire.
