The problem with religion is: man made it, man ran it, man evolved in it, man organized it, man destroyed it. It once was a good thing, it saw profit and grew into something other than it was supposed to have been.

Same with DDT: man made it, man spread it, man got sick, and the invironment was harmed, it grew into something other than it was supposed to be.

Man screws up in the name of growth. Sooooo, man screws up. Ever reaching....ever ending. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

Kat

Nicely put, Kat...

Soooo, man screws up in the name of growth, man screws up in the name of love... I think that, in the end, Man screws up for the purpose of arriving at the same conclusion...

...There are no screw ups. This is our path. There's no right and no wrong. I believe that the ultimate lesson here is Love... Not merely romantic Love or the Love between a parent and child... I mean LOVE... That force that drives us, all creatures and life to be born into this world. It's a spontaneous expression of Love.

Could the concept of Love be made into just another religion? Sure... We can make anything into a religion. I feel like, when we no longer try to attach so much meaning, life begins to take on it's own natural flow. We begin to find our destiny with less resistance. We can begin to get a sense of freedom from the trap of "good" and "bad". We can more readily tap into our own ability to create from both our hearts and minds. What you may call God, I may choose to call Love today. I guess when we, in our all too human state, try to define it, our egos wish us to be "right". We get caught up in being the most "right"... as if God really cares.

None of us are wrong.

Just a personal note to Splendidlife,...

Sorry for the interruption,...

I was just wondering if you ever check your email? Or if maybe there's somethign wrong with the email system? I did see people posting in the feedback section about emails not being received.

I ask this because I had sent you a lengthy email and it's still sitting in my outbox unopened. So I'm just wondering if you can even see it in your inbox?

You may now return to your regularly scheduled posts,... drinker

Religion is, really? Let me reprint a post I made a few minutes ago concerning what you'll discover (or not discover) when your clock runs out...

Oh I think there will be proof and everyone will discover the proof upon their own demise! If there is no afterlife, persons of no faith in God won't be smug because they will have been right, there is nothing. If there is no afterlife persons of faith won't really care, will they?

On the other hand if God does exist and there is an afterlife, persons of no faith might have some explaining to do while persons of faith might be curious to hear their explanations.

The upside of having faith in God is that believers have everything to gain and nothing to lose while non-believers are in a lose/lose situation.

This is total baloney. You’re assuming that God isn’t anymore intelligent than you are.

All you’re really suggesting here is that you’re a gambler. You’re shooting craps to become a believer just in case that might be the truth of our existence, whilst you view non-believing as being a lose/lose situation.

You also said that non-believers would have some explaining to do while person’s of faith might be curious to hear their explanations. But non-believers are posting their explanations all the time. No need to wait until you die to hear that.

When it comes to the biblical picture my explanation is simple. I don’t believe that God is a bloodthirsty entity who thrives on seeing blood flood to appease him for the sins of man. To me that makes absolutely no sense. I think God is the one who would need to explain why he’s so obsessed with seeing blood flow.

I don’t believe that God would find it impossible to forgive men of their sins unless they first offer to crucify his only begotten son and humiliate him. How would that appease God? I’d like to hear God’s answer to that one.

It’s like God is saying to mankind. I can’t forgive you for your sins (which include murder), so here, take my only begotten, publicly humiliate him, and nail him to a pole. They I can find it in my heart to forgive you of your sins.

What???

That makes sense to you???

I’m sorry but that makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Do you really believe that an all-wise, all-intelligent, all-compassionate God is going to be pissed at me for not believing that he’s a demented bloodthirsty sadist????

I found a picture of God called Pantheism. It’s a perfect picture of a God who is not obsessed with blood sacrifices. It’s a picture of a God who has truly unconditional love. It’s a picture of a genuinely compassionate God. A God who created a universe where everyone can win. And there won’t be any egotistical pigs hanging around on Judgment Day to point their fingers at non-believers chanting, “We told you so!” like a bunch of spoiled brats who are more interested in being right than anything else.

The last of my worries is to meet you on Judgment Day pointing your finger at me and laughing because I didn’t believe that God was a bloodthirsty sadist who can only be appeased by blood sacrifices.

My answer to your God you be simple,…. “I thought you were better than that God”.

That’s all I can say. I honestly thought God would be above blood sacrifices and an egotistical need to be appeased and worshiped.

I wouldn’t want to serve such a deity for eternity anyway. From my point of view such a deity would just be a demon in disguise. If that’s our true predicament, - that we are just slaves to deity who is appeased by bloodshed, - I won’t need to explain anything. I’ll gladly accept the death penalty and be thankful that there was an escape from such a nightmare situation. If you’re there laughing at my situation I hope you know what you are doing, because I’ll truly feel sorry for your situation if you plan on serving that demonic sadist for all of eternity.

Abra, did you really read and comprehend what I wrote? You did this to me before in a discussion on mathematics and the universe. You quote what I write and instead of addressing what I say, you take off on a tangent. Another brain fart perhaps?

This kind of thinking assumes that "religion" (a man-made concept) has something to do with eternal life and God.

Eternal life and God either exist or they don't.

Religion's are many and each one has a different idea of what might lie behind the curtain of death.

I am not sure any religion has their facts strait.

But I do believe in life after death and prime source (God).

JB

p.s. I believe in God (the prime source) because I exist.
