90% of marriages in 2007 were people who met on the internet...
I personally think people get married for the wrong reasons..then realize that they settled out of convenience...

90% ?? where did you get that info?
Take into consideration that many women work now and are not afraid to have a life on their own , while before it wasn't so easy for them to get out of a bad relationship.

yes...source please! i would venture to say that 90% of people who meet online end up in divorce, but otherwise this doesn't sound right. huh

Modern times, things change much faster.
We have to ability to make changes easier, with less social stigma.
We are not as tolerant of differences & want more individual control of our own lives.
Thus divorce is an easier answer to marital problems.
good answer

Yes, we as a race of people have became more modern,,as OTHERS say, to new ideas and reasoning.
SO,,,ALOT, want to run when they find a problem.
Instead of WORKING on a fix for the problem..

The song, "Whats-Forever for"? Fits alot who want to quit,
and the realilty of trying to make it work....

My two cents anyway...flowerforyou

I think that divorce has become to convenient and individuals have become lazy about working at their relationships.
Increased use of the internet and sites like these also increase 'temptation' for those who are not completely satisfied in a current marriage.

We are living in a "disposible" society with so many conveniences and it is affecting our behavior as well.

Whats really scary is the rate at which a second marriage ends in divorce....I didn't get it right the first time...I sure hope I am more selective the second time.....cause there will not be a third.

I think we just have way too much free time these days. Free time to think to much about the relationship, free time to cheat on each other, free time to let our minds wander.

It was probably a little harder at the turn of the century when couples worked hard from sunrise to sunset just trying to put food on the table.

I think if you look back on society, the classes of people with the most free time had the higher incidences of divorce and/or cheating. These days, there are a lot more people with a lot more free time.

I have no prospects on the horizon, but if & when I get married again, I'll be back after 25 years or so to add something to this...

Not everything can be fixed. People don't change just because you want them to. So what do you do? Spend the rest of your life in total misery in a loveless marriage? That's what people used to do. Why is that considered a better alternative? I think it is wonderful that we have more freedom now and we don't have to stay locked in hell until we die.

A lot of the time people get married for the wrong reasons; fear of being alone, stability, convenience, etc.

If people married for love, real love then I do believe that more marriages would last. I was married three times noway and two beat me and one cheated on me and I won't tolerate either action by a mannoway

Some men don't have a clue what forever and love mean (and before you jump) some women don't either. bigsmile

Both parties need to understand what honesty and faithfulness mean and we wouldn't have such a high divorce rate.

And I still believe "no company is better than the wrong company"

this is why we need self control! we need to get to know the person in stead of jumping into a cituation then ask questions later

I don't know if you can blame the divorce rate on "getting married for the wrong reasons". Up until about 50 or so years ago, most marriages were arranged and neither bride nor groom had much say in the matter.

How many of you would be willing to let your parents choose your mate?
