the Chinese have a great sense of humor too. Chinese men do not have much(if any) hair on their arms. I have the regular American standard issue amount. After I noticed countless people at work staring at my arms, I asked my translator why they were doing that. and she said Point blank.. Well.. your arms are like a monkey. I stared at her in disbelief and said " what?".. she said.. as a matter of fact.. they call you the monkey Lol... cracked me up!!! Hehehehe...... I think she got it wrong in the translation, it should have been the 'ape man'! Did you show them your hairy chest and other hairy parts , I mean legs??? No... I didn't want to start a wolf man sighting scare in the village Lol Nah..... you would never be mistaken for a wolf man, probably a yeti! LOL! |

you sure love your tea I've never had one of these but I'd try on certainly. Followed by Crispy Duck Seafood Noodles Then Chinese wedding cake, rice pudding The tea eggs (cha ye tan) is extremely easy to make. You can find some easy recipes, and it is so economical compared to buying it from vendors. We even have pre-packed ingredients sold at our local chinese medicine shops here. My children loved these and you could always tell if these were sold in a particular area....just follow your nose! |

I love learning of different cultures and histories. I ended up reading a manga (Japanese comic book)about a teenager learning bajiquan. He ends up on a trip to china to find his grandfather who had returned some years prior to thank those who had helped him when he was an injured soldier during ww2. Which is where he learned the art to pass on to his grandson. The manga itself touched on a lot of different ideas about martial arts and Chinese culture I thought were interesting. Things about the cultural revolution after ww2 as well as the beginnings of certain martial arts and short stories of some prominent martial arts figures like the spear god Li Shu Wen(sp?) as well as some others. It makes light of some other interests I have had like fortune telling and palm reading. As well as some other sayings that really stuck with me. Like when it comes to learning and remembering only the most important aspects of a lesson while discarding the unneeded. That Managa is titled Kenji. i don't know if it's common knowledge or not... but as far as i can remember on my Chinese history, one of the emperors of China wanted to live forever, and sent a company/troop/battalion of soldiers and specialized individuals to search for a plant or fountain of youth... of course, there's no such thing... Emperors were deemed "sons of heaven" and this particular one was quite cruel and autocratic... the people knew that if they returned to the capital without finding the youth potion, their heads would get chopped off... hence, when they travelled to Japan that time, they decided to stay and hide from the Emperor... hence, that's why most Japanese literature can reference their historical origins to China, and why some Japanese characters are the same or are similar to Chinese ones. Whatever our history books says..... whether someone denies that their lineage goes all the way back to China.... DNA analysis has proven that majority of the men has Chinese or Korean origins. There is a saying that you can find the Chinese at every corner of the world..... don't know whether this has been proven. |

I could go for some of the triple pepper beef at the Huabei, near the 2 nd ring road just north of the Forbidden City, Beijing. It's been 16 years and I still remember it. Stan, it's been 16 years.....it is time to make another visit! Though we can't be sure that particular shop is still there, the food should still be available elsewhere. China is so vast, it would do to plan where and what you want to see this time round. |

Mr. Vampire is the BEST! I have my own copy. This is an eye-opener! I never knew this kind of movies would receive acceptance by Westerners. Metalwing, is your copy dubbed or with sub-titles? As I understand English and Chinese, I never liked to watch dubbed movies cos' the lip synching would be out and the sound effects affected. I prefer the original language with sub-titles. |

I'm a huge horror fan, and fan of films in general. I also love most martial arts films, especially the stuff from the 70's and 80's. Love the non-American Jackie Chan films. Also Michelle Yeoh, and of course Bruce Lee. Big fan of The Killer with Yun-Fat Chow. Haha yeah, but I do tend to like some of the weirder (and sillier) side of films, one of the reasons I love Spooky Encounters with Sammo Hung so much. don't know if it's your cup of tea, but films by Tony Leung, Andy Lau and Stephen Chow are pretty good too...as well as Maggie Cheung and Karen Mok Yep, definitely my cup of tea. Fan of their work too. Loved Kung Fu Hustle, and Shaolin Soccer, and even enjoyed Chow's family film CJ7. Maggie Cheung is in another of my favorites, The Heroic Trio alongside Michelle Yeoh. high five, then Glad my country fellow women has made a name for themselves in the very very competitive film industry, namely Michelle Yeoh and Angelica Lee Sin Je (The Eye). My favorites would still be Jackie Chan and Jet Li for their kung fu movies. |

i have a question... why, when referring to a "possession", is it only demon like entities? angels and god cannot possess people as well? only bad spirits/demons? You got that right. That has to do with our free will. No one is allowed to take away our free will, not even angel, archangels, etc. Free will is our birthright. It also means the good ones may not interfere (as in help) unless we ask for help. Otherwise it would be messing with our free will, our free choice, and this is not allowed. That's why only the negative and bad ones will do so. And you can believe it or not, mock it or not... I've had an entity in my body once, and it's not a particularly fun experience. not mocking, just don't believe in it... one of the reasons it's not practiced much anymore is because of the deaths associated with exorcisms, no medical attention is there, only priests... The exorcist we had over was not a priest and what he did was nothing like what you see in the movies either. There's a difference between bad/negative spirits and demonic stuff. Bad/negative spirits can be bad enough. Often deceased people that aren't aware they are dead, or are stuck in the lower realms of the after world etc. Sometimes they're bound to an area, a building or a person. Can still be very hard work to help them pass over. Often they don't want to go, cause they are scared. Others can be nasty a-holes. Different ballgame from the demonic exorcisms you get to see in movies. And even the non demonic stuff can be pretty darned freaky... some places are seriously haunted. I've once lived in a house, temp rental, a new house, and odd stuff happened there. Sudden temperature drops, chilling you to the bone, shadows, hearing things, sensing things, both my kids saw things. Then I found out the entire block was built on an ancient pre-Christian burial site :/ They didn't know, they found out when they'd started building. Friggin wonderful! There's similar sites in the US, Indian sites for instance. Not demonic, but serious chit nonetheless. You often get similar things on places where heavy battle took place in the past. The last house I lived in, the one that required an exorcist, was next to the church. As far as I could work out, it was built on leylines (not very smart, in the old days no one built a home on a leyline, for good reason) and on - or close to - what used to be the death road. The entire village had a weird vibe. Heard later on that the gallows used to be just outside the village. NOt just the one, but like a field of 'em. The place where ppl from the entire area were hanged, just outside the village. Still nothing demonic, but serious chit. If you ever wanted to cleanse that energy, would be very hard work, not likely something one person can do on his/her own. And sometimes thing some places cannot even be healed, like some Indian places in the States. i still believe the it's lots of psychology at play in those situations, kind of a placebo effect... if a person thinks the someone can help them, then they probably can... since i don't believe in ghost or spirits, then they don't exist to me... i've spent nights at "haunted" places around the US, and some of the people with me were total believers... while they swear up and down they seen and felt things, i never did, not even once.... thats why i think it's a psychosomatic type deal, the more they wanted to believe, the more they saw.... Never say never..MMoe! I think Crystal explained it pretty well. The angels and so called good spirits/deities would need the person to enable them access to their body in order to possess as in going into a trance to do specific things that they are there for. Have you ever heard of 'spontaneous movements during meditation'? In our field of meditation, it is believed that the deities/angels/spirits are assisting in your meditation. A guy once witnessed this and declared that it is all fake and he doesn't believe it. He was challenged to sit, and when he did, he went into a 'frenzy' of movements that he could not control..... he never dared challenge the deity again. And as for your statement 'not mocking, just don't believe in it... one of the reasons it's not practiced much anymore is because of the deaths associated with exorcisms, no medical attention is there, only priests...', I beg to disagree. If not for the exorcisms, there would be many more who would have died without a logical explanation by the doctors in the death certificate. I have seen too many cases to not believe. |

lol... aren't all cab drivers a little nuts... lol... the cab drivers you were referring to...they must've been Cantonese... ... a loud and colorful bunch they are..! you should see them in action as waiters....lol! yes, some cab drivers are rude and not all of them are honest. Mostly in the cities. But I have run into that in many places outside of Asia.. include NYC..(my own back yard). I think that is pretty much a universal thing. And at times shop owners will get a little upset if you don't buy something if you go into their store.. sometimes. but I think that is because the competition in China for merchants is fierce. I have walked out of many stores without buying anything and I have received a smile as I walked out. But I am sure their are nasty ones as well. Not everyone is nice I always try to take one of my Chinese friends with me when Shopping for stuff in China.. and let them do the haggling.. they love it.. its like a sport to them. And they are great at it. I just stand there and watch the show. Smartest move ever on the shopping trips...... another tip for you, DD, when you bring your chinese friend along, and you see something you like, don't ask your friend to ask for the price there and then! Move away, and then ask your friend to go back and ask for the price, and then, later, you go and ask for the price again. You'll be surprised by the disparity! Then, start the haggling....... I once saw a white guy haggling, and I think he was having so much fun! Learn to do it, and soon you will not need a local to do that for you....hehehe!! But first you've got to learn Chinese!! |

Wow wow........ I didn't know about this! Interesting, especially the ones on the China’s Pyramids! China's PyramidsIt’s not just Egypt that has pyramids. China has around forty of these giant mausoleums located about 16 miles northwest of Xi’an, on the Qin Chuan Plains in Shaanxi Province. These giant structures were built to house the remains of China’s early emperors and their relatives. Mysteriously, the Chinese government denies the existence of these pyramids and has even planted trees around them to disguise them. In total, there are around 300 pyramids in the Xi’an region. You can get to the pyramids from Xi’an, which has its own airport. This just goes to show how big and large China is. A friend of mine has been there numerous times, and says he has only covered a small section of China and there are so many many more provinces he has never been to. there's about 40 countries with pyramids, and counting... china is really cool for history and paranormal buffs, very rich in both.... and they still finding lots of "feathered" dinosaur fossils near the gobi desert... and, the last real wild horses on earth live in that area as well... So, MMoe.....have you ever been to China? I have been to a few provinces there and if I can afford to, hope to go again. But I also have my thoughts on Australia, New Zealand and the US. Tough choice! |
