You know what someone else believes and values culturally is their business . An eleven year girl is at the heart of this story .. Does she deserve your judgment . Or the judgement of those who do not understand her culture . I hope they win their case . Consumerism has often been subject to public safety and accountability to do good and do no harm .. That is the point of warning labels . Tampons are no different .

Dearest,
while i totally agree with 'beliefs & culture'
11 year kid is not the heart of the story, her mother is..

& in your outlandish defense that always reduces my brain to puddle (might as well admit my argument seems secondary to the helluva woman)

Point is if a Mormon family had raised this issue - normal consumerism debate
if an immigrant family raises this issue - quite different!!

why different?
hah!! - deep:::

fundamentally, while Christians (& other) communities are grappling towards a symbiosis between science & religion (include moderates like me)

Islamic apostates (using mothers & youth = jihadists) have frozen human inquiry to the 6th century when the Koran was written.
Yes, Islam has great pure values
but it does not permit fostering inquiry into sciences
-- not a single Nobel winner (Obama??)

i think when the American (or French) constitution was first laid out
it was with the danger of 'crown' & monarchical government in mind.

not with the Limbic brain set that the Koran had frozen one fourth
of world population.

If Islam wants to raise a fatwa against Coca Cola, fine;
do it in Islamic territory. why expand the territory?

WW III is ingenious; will use anything, tampons .. to crusade...
Its we who are in denial, why?
cause pork makes us sleepy;
cause Cameron, Pope & Merkel didn't have a swearing in for immigrants
cause Anti Christ is already well seated in DC w/ Nobel for peace...

and mainly cause the civilized public in the wake of 'bombings' has been reduced to an 'eye for an eye' mentality
and got fenced in by their own governments!!!!!!
biggest joke to see Brussel's protestors & police in action...
it's almost like people have been reduced to colonials by their
own government.

the root cause are but a few lines in the Koran!!!
the Muslim culture can remain untouched and we could save the
majority of the Muslim humanity by 'changing just these lines in the Koran'.

To be brutally frank, if anyone of you have a Muslim b.friend;
& if he's a true Muslim
in the heart of hearts you are nothing!!

even nothing is something
but as per Koran if you are not a Muslim
you are a goat.
(as an Indian, with a history before US or Australia was discovered; i should know)

no, its not anger against Muslims; most of them in India & Indonesia are homegrown converts

it's anger against Islam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

& now if this post has killed the only woman i love
so be it.

Hello Crystal,

i recall your Chakra post some 6 months ago; tried to trace it, then gave up.

didn't know about vagus nerves till yesterday, so not quite clear on how it bundles together with the rest of the nerves. May be Sunshine
will correct / validate it.

It appears that brain science before MRI relied on patients with epilepsy for exploration and now they have come up with a 'vagus nerve stimulate-' for epilepsy treatment; an implant like the pace maker.

The image is from the VNS link where both the old surgical treatment & VNS are presented. https://www.med.nyu.edu/neurosurgery/physicians/a-z-technologies-guide/epilepsy-surgery

problem is battery life is 5 years.

For instance, many people get stomach pains when they worry. That's connected to the 3rd chakra, located at the solar plexus.
Working on the 3rd chakra alleviates both the mental stuff as well as the stomach aches.

know from experience that when somebody points a knife, it's the stomach that curls up - may be my 3rd chakra is chicken.laugh

Would be interesting if we could get a link to your old chakra post or any other on how to work with chakras; with lesser rituals.

recently i came across

1. a famous dream that led to an experiment proving our 'Nerves transmit signals chemically'

2. which i found overlaps slightly with ancient theme of 'chakras'

3. which leads me to hypothesize on the energy component of our 'consciousness'

Here goes:

1. Prior to 1921 it was not clear whether our motor nerves transmitted electrical impulses or chemical releases to keep the organs going. This changed after Otto Loewi’s dreamed up an experiment.

To get a 'handle on the experiment' we need to appreciate what & where these motor nerves called 'vagus' are, so a step backwards into the anatomy of our nervous system:

As one can see, we are all endowed with a sheath of vagus nerves
emanating from the spine & controlling heartbeat, etc..

According to Loewi, the idea for his key experiment came to him in his sleep. He dissected out of frogs two beating hearts: one with the vagus nerve which controls heart rate attached, the other heart on its own. Both hearts were bathed in a saline solution (i.e. Ringer's solution). By electrically stimulating the vagus nerve, Loewi made the first heart beat slower.

Then, Loewi took some of the liquid bathing the first heart and applied it to the second heart. The application of the liquid made the second heart also beat slower, proving that some soluble chemical released by the vagus nerve was controlling the heart rate. He called the unknown chemical Vagusstoff. It was later found that this chemical corresponded to Acetylcholine

That the experiment came to Loewi in a dream or that 'Acetylcholine'
is also an ingredient in our brain that facilitates dreams are 'by-the-way' observations.

2. Correspondences with the Chakra theory

Although the autonomic nervous system is considered to be involuntary, this is not entirely true. A certain amount of conscious control can be exerted over it as has long been demonstrated by practitioners of Yoga and Zen Buddhism. During their periods of meditation, these people are clearly able to alter a number of autonomic functions including heart rate and the rate of oxygen consumption.

3. Now for the hypothesis starting with Yoga practitioners:

On heart rate and the rate of oxygen consumption during meditation:
These changes are not simply a reflection of decreased physical activity because they exceed the amount of change occurring during sleep or hypnosis.

In other words, it is not that the energy rises from the bottom chakra to the top but, by meditation these practitioners 'shut down'
the vagus nerves systematically.

In the process, the energy flow required to run the body (through spine) is reduced (and may even be cut off momentarily).
--xx--

4. Part II of the Hypothesis would be:
So where is this energy 'pooled'(?) during meditation
or
is there no energy pooling at all as all mental chatter has ceased?
(meditators generally remain unaware of surroundings)

or
is the experience 'transcendental' & so beyond explanations?

Donald Trump Effigies Burn Across Mexico In Easter Ritual
Residents cheered as the papier-mâché mock-up of the GOP front-runner went up in flames.

Donald Trump Effigies Burn Across Mexico In Easter Ritual

"Since he started his campaign and began talking about immigrants, Mexico, and Mexicans, I said 'I've got to get this guy,'" said Felipe Linares, the artisan who crafted Trump and whose family has been making Judases for more than 50 years.

Tomas Bravo / Reuters
Craftsman Felipe Linares is seen here putting the final touches to the effigy depicting Donald Trump, before it was set on fire.

Judas effigies are burnt in villages and towns in several Latin American countries such as Venezuela and in parts of Greece. Anthropologists say the practice serves a symbolic function to overcome divisions and unite communities around a common enemy.

Linares has also done mock-ups of corrupt former union leader Elba Esther Gordillo and President Enrique Pena Nieto, whose popularity has been hit by conflict-of-interest scandals and the disappearance of 43 students at the hands of corrupt police.

“That was a tremendous mistake,” Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday. “It’s fine to go to Argentina, you want to do the work, but you’ve got to be careful of these little photo ops and optics. Baseball games and tangos, that’s inconsistent with the seriousness of the day.”
-----------
“Obama attacks the dance floor,” the Drudge Report declared.
----------
“Fox and Friends” aired video of the president’s dance moves along with the label “Tango Over Terror.”
-------------
"When everybody else is worried about where ISIS is, who they are going to kill next, and [if they] are going to come over here,” former Judge Andrew Napolitano said on the cable network’s morning show, “the president shouldn’t be in Argentina doing the tango.”
-----------
Nicolle Wallace, former communications director for President George W. Bush, said Obama’s reluctance to alter his itinerary “puts him vastly … out of step with the entire American public, not just Republicans.
------------
“His policy choice was to proceed with everything on his schedule and not to react to the threat of terrorism,” Wallace said on MSNBC. “There were mothers lying dead while their, you know, family members were at the crime scene yesterday, and to [make it] look like the priority is to go on a foreign trip instead of pausing for a minute and explaining that to America is a communications crime.”
------------------
“As long as they’re having a nice spring break,” conservative radio host Laura Ingraham snarked on Twitter, “that’s all that really matters.”
----------
Presidential hopefuls John Kasich and Ted Cruz had urged Obama to return to the United States or go to Brussels.

“President Obama should be back in America keeping this country safe or President Obama should be planning to travel to Brussels,” Cruz said on Tuesday. “We don’t need another lecture from Obama on Islamophobia.”

a spark of contradiction..,
in my post, you declared that rest-of-world affairs is no
concern to the American President
and that included Pope's Easter benedictions
and so you dismissed

and here you are lambasting your own President
when Brussels got flamed.

Definition of NATURE;: the physical world and everything in it (such as plants, animals, mountains, oceans, stars, etc.) that is not made by people.
What you call 'Nature' we call it God.
The Biblical data places the Flood at 2304 BC ± 11 years.
Bible and Quran said the Flood was an order from God;
The Bible, in Genesis 5–9, gives us the bulk of what we know about Noah and his life.
Quran (54:11) Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down,
(54:12) and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed.
(54:13) And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails,
(54:14) which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude.
(54:15) And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed?

That Timeline is based on the Young-Earth-Hypothesis!
No Basis in Fact!

this argument keeps resurfacing n i don't understand Conrad,
why you waste prodigious energy here.

Mr. Lung is in deep
& trying his best to cleave out Muslim world from ISIS.
can we really help??

at least he's trying..., testing his ideas from history..
Pope has already washed people's feet...
thereby assuring of a timeless compassion

now up to Lung to decide, whether religion is paramount
or in the heavenly community of America,
where freedom of thought n expression n pursuit of happiness
is fundamental rights of life

or stay with dead past.

i am not sure that spirituality is limited to an inner journey.
there's a practical component which grows over time
(may also wane)

Some levels to this component could be:

1. A base of Compassion - a beginner's level

In everyday life, getting moved by songs or music or love
creates an empathy in our mind space

a relationship with nature:
could include scientific base that improves our understanding
explains why some of us care about distant future: global warming

a social awareness & belonging:
like right here in the forums, transcending national boundaries
where we listen to view points although they conflict with ours

detachment from emotions like anger or disgust:
like when a beggar asks for a handout

learning from our own sorrows / shocks:

in all of the above we begin with 'compassion'
and it allows us to momentarily experience some 'detachment'

--xx--
2. Detachment:
i think newer possibilities open up with bit of detachment in our everyday life, like sharing without thinking or doing a good job as a matter of course

the theme of detachment grows to a point of quality
which may be termed as 'spiritual bias' in our action
(correct me if there's a better term)

to do so, the mind-space enlarges to hold a 'we' instead of an 'I'
--xx--

3. Deliberate instead of Impulsive response:
Sounds like maturity but consider this when it stems from an inner sense of goodness / goodwill

4. Spiritual tools:
Now we may be ready for meditation or stillness
a) stops the chatter running within the mind,
b) stops the visuals cascading in our mind,
c) slows breathing,
just plain awareness (w/o any opinion about it)

in this stage, an awareness, a divine hand as guiding
or may be we are just re-aligning
to a larger 'external' energy flow
(if one takes work it is aligning with the Boss)
but i sense collaboration instead of competition
as part of alignment to this flow

All of the above is probably 'prep' for a journey.
(i may be here although not anchored in it)

5. The Journey / Faith
As SCB points out, scientific exploration could be one such path
at least with the wealth of info on net we can figure something?

the problem was as a lay man, i compared human brain with chimp brain and found the chimp brain can hold larger emotional content!! laugh

May be it's time for a Guru to familiarize us with this unknown path. May be faith is what i require.

--xx--
6. The Goal:
my point is that some blinding flash of light during meditation
or a vision,
may or may not happen or whether it's part of spiritual journey
i don't know.
--xx--

i sense a spiritual aura when i read a few words of one of our
own in these forums - a detached form of love.

that's a level of 'spirituality' i'm currently aspiring for.
thanks for reading.

i also see Technovative has used just a few words & so believe
he means it.

Ultimately SimplyComplicated spins this post with:
"Spiritual = The story we tell when we don't know"
laugh

Let's say it's true,
steps 1 to 4 are still in our natural inclinations.

--xx---
additionally:
spirituality at the levels of Christ or even Joan of Arc??
merely thinking about shakes me up.

i suppose that would require a stronger body or
as somebody said recently a 'guilt free' mind?

as this would be a 'trans-formative' stage,
point of no return
i would prefer stage 5 to be a slower journey

as the next generation is expected to live over 100 years,
these journeys may be completed by a lot more 'elders'

Peter, Pls don't mock poor people! They too need love & affection and have all the right to look for a partner. The day God wants, you too may be forced to spend your whole time looking for Roti/Kapada/Makan!

i agree:

1. love needs Chappathi (hot air won't do)

2. poor man needs love (to earn Chappathi (s))

circular formula - cannot be revised.

Sassy,
a one time request, your patience..
even i'm guilty of shortsighted comments, so there. slaphead

In your first response you indicated disinterest
'by all Americans' on this topic
over a message given out by the Pope to the World,
particularly Europe.

as other M2 members in Europe might be interested
an outline was attempted to show how world leadership
is all inter-connected

additionally a tango-solution from Pope as well
as from the possible new leadership from West.
--xx--

you felt compelled to respond with it will not work

Migrants said NO. For at least 10 years.
Neither Europe on any other country has won or gained anything. They lost.

a powerful point; but it didn't suggest a solution
after all:
America is a major stakeholder in World affairs.

--xx--
as i was working close to Syria border: Jan 2011 - Sept 2012
i deeply felt the 'absence' of decisive leadership from World
(no body actually cared. reminded me of Bangladesh freedom)

at that time, 2012; forcing Assad to leave Syria
was proposed in the UN by Middle East countries
including joint military action by Saudi's then ruler

US vetoed this military action in the UN!!
problem could have been nipped in the bud
i personally couldn't understand it at all.
--xx--

now over the course of this debate,
a possible cause for this one leader's hesitation surfaced

when a leader accepts the Nobel Peace Prize
there exists 'a bond'

--xx--

As i had seen Assad resort to chemical bombs (after UN vote)
it personally hurt me
so i came down strongly on the acceptance of Nobel Prize.
--xx--

This topic is for reflection from Europeans and Asian members
as well as from Americans who believe that
"with great power comes greater responsibility"
--xxx--

i completely agree with the sentiments you have expressed
in your final post.

it just so happens that Mr. Trump is the American leader
at this extraordinarily difficult time in Europe.

Please bear in mind, most of my posts stem from some level
of personal / first hand experience.

I can understand your outrage, expressed fairly well

how does it debate with my observations???
--xx--

And worry about your own President Narendra Modi
& your own country being taken over & corrupt within.

sure, i'm worried, thanks.
we have a great population crisis & i'm actively looking up
possible forums on net where it's being addressed.
these are real problems
and having known you and a few others as great contributors
to my learning (i believe in kissing as@ if it will bring peace)
so i don't take any umbrage on criticisms where its due.

now how about if i wash your lovely feet? tongue2

your Senate spent enormous time over a momentary infraction
by President Clinton - Starr Report

and y'all did nothing when the current President sold out for what?
'recognition', gold?

'i am humbled', he said. A CnC of a great Nation, leader of World!

if it was a UN prize;
ok, given as a 'tribute' to great leadership

a Nobel prize? from a private trust? while in Office??slaphead

and probable reason US was laid back in world affairs was
their President was bought off by prize money (Nobel)
does not matter, whether it was given away as charity

'We are brothers', Pope tells refugees

Sooooo...great!
Problem solved.

They can all stay at his place.

Yea, and he can work on those refugees feet a little more. It's a win-win. I love happy endings.

It would be win-win if the gesture was reciprocated by the other side;
if Europe insisted on an equal 'show of goodwill'...
ask the "lions to lay beside the sheep"

Insisted? (& begged & pleaded & gave till it hurt, killed & destroyed).
Asked & answered.
Migrants said NO. For at least 10 years.
Neither Europe on any other country has won or gained anything. They lost.

tough topic, first the facts:

1. For good or bad, migrants are in

2. Strong possibility of Mr. Trump coming through.

3. For last 8 years US leadership was laid back

--xx--

Now a ray of hope for Europe / world

i see a 'blow hot, blow cold' approach.

On one hand Pope assures 'fraternal' environ for migrants in host C.

On the other, Mr. T 'insists' migrants give up their old identity,
in their new country and this could begin with the Imams in Europe
expressing their gratitude 'on behalf of their people' to host
country by 'washing & kissing' some feet.

(as Hijab, wijab was all tried & not working, something definite)

& it goes to the root of the matter;
if as Pope says all religions are different path to Him

then if any one religion harbors others 'to be wiped out'
????
President Trump response one more strike & u all return to your
home country.
a logic even school boys can understand.

call it double barrel approach or something
Mr. T can express it better so that it resonates
in the head of all bearded men.

--xx--
Nothing personal:
In Islam, beard is a sign of a lion among men
while in Korea, a pencil line mustache is an affront to authority
