Casle Nudvo Di Porto, Italy: The Pontiff washed and kissed the feet of migrants at an Easter Week Ceremony .... .... The Vatican said four women and eight men took part. The women included an Italian Catholic who works at the shelter and 3 Eritrean Coptic Christian migrants. The men included four Catholics from Nigeria, 3 Muslims from Mali, Syria and Pakistan and a Hindu man from India. Source: AP / The Hindu / The Independent (UK) |

The Pope & The USA
1- Roman Catholicism is a minority religion in the USA. 2- Even fewer, care what the Pope says. So only a very small fraction of the population would consider him, 'God on Earth' or consider themselves 'under him'. 3- Especially this Pope. He is not popular, even in Rome. South America loves him & has the majority of RCs in the world. 4- Washing of feet is not a Christian ritual. And is rarely & symbolically done. And then only for other Christians, by a pastor for his congregation. 5- This manipulation tactic of his will fail, it is self defeating & perhaps blasphemous. |

It would be win-win if the gesture was reciprocated by the other side; if Europe insisted on an equal 'show of goodwill'... ask the "lions to lay beside the sheep" |

They lost. tough topic, first the facts: 1. For good or bad, migrants are in 2. Strong possibility of Mr. Trump coming through. 3. For last 8 years US leadership was laid back --xx-- Now a ray of hope for Europe / world i see a 'blow hot, blow cold' approach. On one hand Pope assures 'fraternal' environ for migrants in host C. On the other, Mr. T 'insists' migrants give up their old identity, in their new country and this could begin with the Imams in Europe expressing their gratitude 'on behalf of their people' to host country by 'washing & kissing' some feet. (as Hijab, wijab was all tried & not working, something definite) & it goes to the root of the matter; if as Pope says all religions are different path to Him then if any one religion harbors others 'to be wiped out' ???? President Trump response one more strike & u all return to your home country. a logic even school boys can understand. call it double barrel approach or something Mr. T can express it better so that it resonates in the head of all bearded men. --xx-- Nothing personal: In Islam, beard is a sign of a lion among men while in Korea, a pencil line mustache is an affront to authority |

and probable reason US was laid back in world affairs was their President was bought off by prize money (Nobel) does not matter, whether it was given away as charity (it's in the game) Commander in Chief receiving a Peace Prize in 2010 the stage was set..in 2010 and you all elected him back to Office??? |

your Senate spent enormous time over a momentary infraction by President Clinton - Starr Report and y'all did nothing when the current President sold out for what? 'recognition', gold? 'i am humbled', he said. A CnC of a great Nation, leader of World! if it was a UN prize; ok, given as a 'tribute' to great leadership a Nobel prize? from a private trust? while in Office?? |

What? The Pope/ Christian/ Humanitarian / guilt / P.C. angles didn't work so now your shooting for political?
You are all over the place. How is this in any way about Donald Trump?... Again. He didn't create any chaos over seas. Or cause Mass migration or invasion. Trump did not ask anyone to give up their culture or faith. We as Americans are not EU. We are not obligated. We do not have guilt. We don't not believe kissing as@ will bring peace. We have no desire to clean up or save Europe or the planet, from itself. Did Muslim countries take them? No. There are at least 5 others Non Muslim countries that have refused them also. Why? Who cares anymore? Not Trump's problem. Not The United States of America's problem. Damn.. We take in more legal migrants than anyone else. We are the 3rd most populated & not the 3rd largest. We have over 15 million illegals now. We have Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba & all of South America trying to move in. And we are BROKE. The mere suggestion that my country should take in anymore ungrateful, non productive, barbaric maniacs who refuse to assimilate & are mostly men under 45, looking for virgins & believe they are doing the world a favor by breeding & intend to make the world Islamic,... while looking for a hand out, after they abandoned their own & were rejected by their own... is ludicrous!! If you don't think those are rational & valid reasons to say, NO. Then address the U.N & E.U & Ma Merkel. And worry about your own President Narendra Modi & your own country being taken over & corrupt within. Geez... I'm out. I don't care about the Nobel Peace Prize either. |

Sassy,
a one time request, your patience.. even i'm guilty of shortsighted comments, so there. In your first response you indicated disinterest 'by all Americans' on this topic over a message given out by the Pope to the World, particularly Europe. as other M2 members in Europe might be interested an outline was attempted to show how world leadership is all inter-connected additionally a tango-solution from Pope as well as from the possible new leadership from West. --xx-- you felt compelled to respond with it will not work Migrants said NO. For at least 10 years. Neither Europe on any other country has won or gained anything. They lost. a powerful point; but it didn't suggest a solution after all: America is a major stakeholder in World affairs. --xx-- as i was working close to Syria border: Jan 2011 - Sept 2012 i deeply felt the 'absence' of decisive leadership from World (no body actually cared. reminded me of Bangladesh freedom) at that time, 2012; forcing Assad to leave Syria was proposed in the UN by Middle East countries including joint military action by Saudi's then ruler US vetoed this military action in the UN!! problem could have been nipped in the bud i personally couldn't understand it at all. --xx-- now over the course of this debate, a possible cause for this one leader's hesitation surfaced when a leader accepts the Nobel Peace Prize there exists 'a bond' --xx-- As i had seen Assad resort to chemical bombs (after UN vote) it personally hurt me so i came down strongly on the acceptance of Nobel Prize. --xx-- This topic is for reflection from Europeans and Asian members as well as from Americans who believe that "with great power comes greater responsibility" --xxx-- i completely agree with the sentiments you have expressed in your final post. it just so happens that Mr. Trump is the American leader at this extraordinarily difficult time in Europe. Please bear in mind, most of my posts stem from some level of personal / first hand experience. I can understand your outrage, expressed fairly well how does it debate with my observations??? --xx-- And worry about your own President Narendra Modi & your own country being taken over & corrupt within. sure, i'm worried, thanks. we have a great population crisis & i'm actively looking up possible forums on net where it's being addressed. these are real problems and having known you and a few others as great contributors to my learning (i believe in kissing as@ if it will bring peace) so i don't take any umbrage on criticisms where its due. now how about if i wash your lovely feet? |
