Drama, like ..? I haven't had drama here. Some GREAT discussions that have become somewhat heated (but ended well), but no drama.

ya its those conversations that get people like me banned for a week!!! and another person as well!!! its dumb

Why's that? I've enjoyed those conversations. Learned a lot!

Disclaimer: This poem is in no way meant to reflect anyone on this site. It was written two years ago, far before I joined Mingle. Thank-you.

An Hode to the Stepfords.

The perfect house, with a perfect yard.
Rot of the soul.
The perfect kids and the perfect car.
Rot of the soul.
The perfect pie for the perfect church.
Rot of the soul.
A perfect yard, from a perfect perch.
Rot of the soul.
Martha is goddess, Money is God.
Rot of the soul.
Heaven help us if we're at all odd.
Rot of the soul.
Thought, what's that? TV shows us the way.
Rot of the soul.
Celebrities role model every day.
Rot of the soul.
Last book I read Oprah did reccomend.
Rot of the soul.
Too bad I couldn't even make it halfway to the end.
Rot of the soul.
I must have the newest, the latest, the greatest.
Rot of the soul.
If not, the world would have a right to hate us.
Rot of the soul.
My kids aren't exactly in bubble wrap,
Rot of the soul.
but it's very hard to let them off my lap.
Rot of the soul.
After all, what if they get a booboo?
Rot of the soul.
Then they won't look great in shorts or a tutu.
Rot of the soul.
I'd watch the news but it's just so boring.
Rot of the soul.
What with all that depressing world warring.
Rot of the soul.
After all, it'll never touch me.
Rot of the soul.
Maybe my grandkids, but hey, I won't see!
Rot of the soul.
So long as my image is picture perfect,
Rot of the soul.
and my beautiful mask is a glovelike fit,
Rot of the soul.
and my kids are quaint, never fuss or fight,
Rot of the soul.
and I never think of my twilight,
Rot of the soul.
I shall be quite happy in my bubblelike life,
Rot of the soul.
and never have to plunge the knife.
Rot.
Of.
The.
Soul.

Weight is such a MAJOR factor for women especially, which is sad considering we're MADE to get "paddier" as we age. My daughter told me once, "Mommy, I don't want you to lose weight. Your hugs wouldn't feel the same then!"

We have lost so much of what's important. frown

And guys, come on. Is it REALLY that hard to give your insecurities? Is there something about testosterone that makes admitting these things toxic to your system? laugh

ETA: tgirl, that's an admirable trait. Just don't wrap her in bubble wrap. laugh

Sometimes I think I'm a bit too picky about who I'll go out with.

Me too! flowerforyou

I lose interest quickly with people who don't stimulate me cognitively.

I have this problem too.

Ditto.

And Dragoness? It's funny what we learn about ourselves when we have the freedom to ask and read the opinions and personal thoughts of others, isn't it? That's what Mingle has done for me. Not given me The One, but helped prepare me for him, which is so much more important for the long run. flowerforyou

Not trying to start a fight, I just want to know if Im wrong. FEEL FREE TO BE HONEST

If you believe that if everyone votes, the world becomes a happier place...then I do not believe that to be true, and would question you further as to why you think that...

IMO, People are responsible for their own happiness...others can add to it, and others can help someone with their happiness, although, IMO, happiness is up to the individual person, and it comes from within that person and out to others...

I think it would be a much "better" world if everyone spent 5 minutes each day smiling at others, and doing random acts of kindness....

and neither one of those things have to be voted on!!

What she said. All of it. That is all.

(Not sure if this should be here or in General, but I'm sure the mods know...)

So, I was sitting here thinking about how we all have different insecurities, and wondering if anyone else would be brave enough to post theirs here. It may be great therapy for us all, to see that we're not alone.

So I'll start: My major two insecurities are not knowing things (especially being in a situation where I'm the only one who doesn't know everyone / don't share the same history, etc), and my stomach. Some women are jealous of others' legs, others are jealous of boobs. Me? It's flat tummies. I always wondered what that was like to have one...

Now you!

Prejudice people

Examples: People who make rash judgements of others lives as though they know what it is like to live the others lives. IE judging those who need help as though they are lazy and want to live off the government without knowing these people's lives at all.

People who use race to make the judgement just listed.

People who judge others as stupid and determine they are then expendable.

Etc....

I agree totally with you. (I still don't like self-inflicted ignorance and stupidity, but that doesn't make ANYONE expendable). flowerforyou

I don't judge people by their pics anyway. For one you can download a pic of someone else to use on the site which I believe I have seen a few times on here.

If you are talking to them for a while and they will not share pics, then become concerned.

Looks are really only as important as the shallowness we all have. The important parts of people are inside them.

But people ARE visual. That doesn't make them shallow, just human.

Being visual means you are stimulated by seeing things. Deciding you cannot be with another person because of their looks is shallow.

If you were blind, how would you choose a mate? Smell, feel, sound, etc... sight is only one sixth of our senses.

And yet, human beings are going to be physically attracted or not. That's just a fact. And that physical attraction is VISUAL. It's not EVERYTHING, no. Hell, I can't STAND pretty boys because they tend to be major a***oles and I can't ever EVER be with someone like that. However, I can't be with someone whom I am not attracted to either. I actually tried to date a couple men whom I was not attracted to, because I hate the idea of being shallow. I was EXTREMELY unhappy and ended up hurting them in the end. Not worth it, for them or me. I am not shallow, but I won't be with someone who doesn't make me truly happy. Otherwise it's not a relationship, it's a pity-filled charity.

I wasn't talking about "being" with someone on here; I merely meant conversation; etc;.....same thing "visual"...shallowness has nothing to do with it; it's people not wanting to communicate unless they can see who their communicating with..I can be guilty of this myself and I don't consider myself "shallow"...

Ah, yeah that's true. It's just easier to "see" the person you're talking to. Course, that doesn't always mean seeing THEM. Hell, Lex, Mirror Mirror and justaguy usually don't have THEIR pics up, but the ones they do have, we relate to them, and we like them overall for what they write. That has nothing to do with physical attraction, you're right. It's about friendship at that point, and the best friends are the ones who can be silly.

I changed my image to this one because I was tired of getting messages that went "hi ur hot wanna cyber call me at ***-****" UGH! Guys like that don't get the concept of being silly... I haven't had one of those since I changed it. But it's still me! laugh Hell, it's probably MORE me than most my other pics!

Say the couple is deaf, would their individual style of sign language create conflicts????

He/She is cute and all that but, ewwww look at the hands.

I read somewhere that the deaf tend to have a much higher attraction to hands than most. Which isn't a surprise. So... yes.

W00T! Tell us all about it!!!

To get back OT, I'll say I can't stand it when people make judgments on others without ever having had to walk in their shoes... including those on DSHS.

Nothing wrong with being shallow...

Gotta disagree there. Shallowness is one of my MAJOR pet peeves. Major.

But to each their own.

MyShell, yeah, we are all who we are, pic or not. But the pic helps people put a face to the posts and profiles, which gives a much rounder image of who we are.

I find that our society needs a reality check on just how dangerous times have become.

Check statistics, there is less crime. With a few exceptions...

Exactly. All that has really changed is media coverage. Just because we KNOW more, doesn't mean there IS more.

I started and was here quite a while with no pic

But now that I have one up life on the site is very very diff. (!!!!!!!!!)

My site friends who got to know me before the pic really took the time to get to know me and we have become close on-line friends

Since the pic only a few really want to get to really know me. Now it's looks. Looks looks which dismays me cause I'm so very much more than that. They will fade with time but my heart. My soul and my personality will remain there

Enough babbling!

But you're beautiful! flowerforyou

To be PERFECTLY honest, I'd probably not say anything and sit through the date, then not talk to them again.

I'm a chickensh**.

But...But... But... I will let you handle my pistol all you want!! Just be very careful.. It might go off!

Darn, I just saw your age, I am becoming such an old perv.

Finally I have become as I have aspired!!!laugh

laugh laugh laugh

Honestly, though, I've had one of those things pointed at me by a crazy kid before. I've never been able to deal with them since.

Funny enough, I love shooting shotguns at targets and stuff, but they're made for hunting. Handguns are made for shooting other people, which gives me the willies. scared

My neighbors are mostly stepford douchebags. I even had one call on me for my yard. Guess what? I'm a single mother of five. I have no time, no energy, no money, and no skills to fix my yard. Did the neighbor come over to my house and offer to help show me how to fix it up? Nope. He called Housing on me instead. What a nice neighbor. grumble
