I've completely given up on the Lions. Not that I ever truly liked professional football much, anyway. I'll stick to my Wolverines.

I don't think it was implied that everybody DOES, nor that they even should.
My top 3: Michael Romeo (Symphony X) Marty Friedman (Megadeth) Alex Skolnick (Testament) |

All right! We get to have a gimmick election. First black president or first woman vice president? I think McCain should have gone for the double whammy and picked a black woman for VP (ie. Condi).

We dont have democracy, we have capitalism. Thats why you have no rights unless you got the money to pay. Socialism and Communism is so much better! If we all can't live like the rich, then we'll make the rich live like us! How dare people actually earn a living and reap the benefits of their hard work! oh sweety...they're not going to like you very much around here.... Yeah, I can't say that I'm not used to that. Conservatives think THEY'RE hated. Pfft. |

The idea of a democracy is scary, anyway. Mob rule is one thing that our founding fathers intended to skirt. Hence the representative republic created, so our nation could be governed by law rather than what was convenient for the majority at the time.
With either choice, we're screwed. There's no getting around that. We'll either deal with bankrupting our government (McCain) or further bankrupting our nation's people and companies (Obama). Then we, also, have to deal with the expansion of our government. I hate the two party system. |

Poverty can't be fixed by throwing money at it. It takes actual care that our government can't (and, quite frankly, shouldn't) provide. We, as Americans, need to stop being complacent, and we need to take the responsibility for ourselves and each other. Donate to charitable organizations. Actually volunteer to help out. Don't tell the government to steal from everybody to throw money at a problem that can't be fixed by money alone.
If you truly want to help, don't go to the government for help. It only handicaps everybody when the government jumps in. "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime." |

People turn to drugs and crime when they have nothing. If this country took care of its people we wouldn't have these social problems. What we need is affordable housing, jobs, food, water, clothing, healthcare & education for all. It's much easier to prevent crime than to deal with the aftermath. When people are safe and their needs are met they are unlikely to break the law. I wish we could end the war in Iraq and use that money to take care of our own people. I do agree that marijuana should be decriminalized. It's less harmful than alcohol & cigarettes. *facepalm* Sorry, but taking money from those who actually make a living and throwing it at people who don't won't solve anything. What we need is private organizations dedicated to helping people build the skills that they need to earn a living. It's a more efficient system, and the government doesn't have to steal from its people. |

A person's going to kill whether or not they have a gun. Guns may be more efficient, but murder would still be prevalent.
The government doesn't need drugs to keep the people stupid. They just let the teacher's union control the schools and keep the kids ignorant. |

This talk of guns is making me wish I'd get my CCW already.

It's because people will stop at nothing to get what they want, and others will take advantage of that desire to make money off of it.
Looking back at the prohibition of alcohol, we can see the same thing happening. The people wanted their alcohol, and the prohibition of it did not stop the consumption or sale of alcohol one bit. Instead, it just took all of it underground. What we saw were dangerous cocktails and the rise of organized crime. As is the cliche, history repeats itself. We ban drugs that we deem unfit for society, society takes it underground, and from there we see a rise in organized crime. You allow people to obtain the substances legally and you get rid of the organized crime. We saw the downfall of the original gangsters when we repealed prohibition. Organized crime can't last when people can get what they want legally. |
