I'm personally not proud to be a Republican. The Republicans have allowed freedom to be thrown under the bus. Unless the Republican party is willing to organize behind a clearly defined platform for the future good of America then they will continue to fail at the polls.

Demographics have changed. A new generation has never had to suffer enough to care about freedom from tyrannical governments or to have pride in themselves enough to never want a free ride. That suffering is coming. We will probably see a good fifteen years of neo-socialism ruling America. We will probably see a foreign power rise so fiercely as to try to take over our land by force. There will likely be another great war. The children of those who fight that war if won will again be able to enjoy fifty years of prosperity. Until then we will be in decline.

Respectfully, where have you been for the last 40+ years? These have not been years of prosperity for most. It has been a farce. Most of us have indentured ourselves to the credit industry. We have come to idealize greed and conspicuous consumption. While I don't disagree that the next ? years will be tough, it will be up to us to change the destiny of this country for the better. Not one President, not one Congress, but each and every one of us. I believe it can be done. I hope you can come to believe in it too. flowerforyou

IMO
People can choose to listen to Limbaugh, O'Reily, and Hannity (whoever he is) because they agree or disagree with their opinions just like they choose to watch ER instead of say, Boston Legal. And the network heads can choose to have these programs on their network because they agree with them, too. But the news, no matter what station it's on, should be an unbiased public service. Period!
I agree with Quiet, it's all about the money!

News... like history, is not unbiased.

Sad, huh?

and when you read the wording and language of the fairness doctrine...it affects broadcasters...i'm just saying it is a well known fact that unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) a large section of society gets their news from those two

Kind of an indictment of society and why we're even having this discussion. IMO

tell both sides of the story??
Fox and NPR and MSNBC would be ruined

fox was fair throughout the whole campaign.

shocked noway

yeah completely ignore my comment on msnbc being fair. that channel was anything but.

Only fair news is free public station new's, and even they lean to one side or the other...FOX was horrible through the election, and what was it? 6 months ago their reporting was found to be bought...what kind of news is bought? And what is fair about it? By no means is MSNBC or the other's any better, but FOX is way, way, way off.

Says you! If you don't like what FOX has to say, then turn the channel. No one is making you watch that channel and last I checked, Fox had a number of liberals on-air. But even that is not the point. MSNBC, CNN and the like are fine with me because that is how they wish to operate. I don't watch any one channel exclusively and I never will.

Why should any station be accountable to you personally? Madison puts up an icon here with Bush's face transparently joined with Hitler's and he has a right to do so! I don't think he's right but I would be mortified to live in a country where he was not allowed to simply because someone felt it "unfair."

You have a choice when it comes to TV, Radio and the like. Find one you like and stop worrying about FOX.

By the way--when Opera refused to allow equal time for McCain/Palin, many of you here were supportive of her decision. So, under the Fairness Doctrine, would it be fair that she had Obama on for an hour and McCain on for a second hour? I don't think so at all. It's her show and she should be able to run it her way. My posts here are consistent with that so why the change now?

-Drew

I would think it is apparent I don't watch any news aside from public access from time to time, so I don't watch Fox, MSNBC, or any of the other top news organizations...and where did I say they should take me into account personally? This is why I don't post here often, you lot are good at one thing; putting words into a sentence where the words don't exist in the first place...

...and Ophra is not a news organization, she's a talk show. She chooses the content. Taking everything she says as gospel is no different than believing everything on Jerry Springer. noway
I'm sorry FearandLoathing for piggybacking that comment on yours! flowerforyou

I just had to add my two cents!
I been heavy since early childhood, but I've lost and gained the same 75 lbs several times in my lifetime. Each time I lost it, like Goof said earlier, I felt fat. Thin just did not feel right to me. Now, I'm 51 years old and I've come to realize that thin is just not going to happen. Luckily, I've also come to realize that I control how I feel about myself and no one is allowed to make me feel bad ever again. I'm healthy. That's what counts.
And to those who think all heavy people are fat just because they're lazy, I got a backyard you can come mow with my push mower, anytime, anytime at all! flowers

Congratulations to all who have been successful in getting to the point you want to be.

Today, it's American "Exceptionalism". It's not even a word. It was used by Sarah Palin. And, last, but not least, those that do use it, don't really have a clue as to why America is exceptional. It's just an ego stroke!

glasses

Kind of like they have no clue why they hate George Bush, it just happens to be the cool thing to do at the moment.

I, personally (sorry Lynann, I had to do that!), have a clue and it's not cool at all! If I was a violent person, I'd hang him by his tallywacker in a tree on the White House lawn!

Oh I see, at the end of the day it goes without saying that it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
With all due respect, at this moment in time, I personally think it is fairly unique.

Peace 24/7!

I'm not really sure what the relation between your story and whether Obama was lying or not is, but he is only one man. The nation as a whole has to believe in converting to clean energy and we have to be willing to pay for it. I support the Pickens Plan because it makes sense to me. Someone said in another post that wind was not a viable option. All I can say is that person has never been to Oklahoma. We got a ton of it! I'm willing to let T. Boone put a windmill in my backyard! flowerforyou

For me, Las Vegas! Didn't have near enough money and it was 110* the whole time we were there! The most fun we had was sitting in a casino bar drinking comped drinks. explode noway I'll take the woods or mountains any day. flowers love

Maybe a Golden Retriever

A Golden Retriever would be my suggestion because they're loving, loyal, and great with kids. But, I suspect that he would be condemned by those who only find fault as trying to be too "white" if he makes that choice. frustrated

IMO
Speaking in reference to our foreign policy, the world hates us because we think that we are better than everyone else and try to impose our "morals" on everyone. We condemn the behaviors of others while we continue to chain blacks to trucks and drag them until all their appendages fall off. Racism and bigotry thrive in this country. We are such hypocrites! Until we stop trying to dictate to the rest of the world, we will be hated. Until all the hate mongers are stopped, we will be hated. Until we clean up our own backyard, we have no right to judge anyone else. This is not something that happened over night, so we can't blame it on Bush, alone. It's not going to be fixed overnight, but I hope that Obama leads us in repairing our world view. Otherwise, World War III will be inevitable, and soon! Talk about your "end of days"!
Again, just IMO!

we are the greatest nation on Gods green Earth...you need to research American Exceptionalism

My fellow American, God's earth is getting less and less green every day! And the exception is not the rule! I suggest you do a little research and reality checking yourself. And, just for kicks, look up "exceptionalism" in the dictionary. flowers
