We've started a new tradition of putting the Christmas lights on the house ON Thanksgiving Day cuz my older son is home from college to help his younger brother do it, and it always seems to be better weather.

This year we are actually getting the Christmas tree day BEFORE Thanksgiving & hopefully getting it decorated too cuz again, everyone is here to do it.

What about you? Do you find you mix the holidays more than you used to, or always have anyway?

I wait until after Thanksgiving, but traditions are a wonderful way of gathering the family and remembering the past, and as generations evolve new traditions are a good thing.

What a nice thing for the boys to do together, and I don't blame you for putting the decorations up early with so much going on with your daughter and all the guests you will be having in December.
Congratulations and all the best for your daughter.

Check this out.

I just uploaded my very first YouTube video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZA4KUbdmbI

A little something with me playing the Native American Flute and singing.

I downloaded the pictures somewhere off the Internet (Ihave no idea where, I've had them for years)

I created this using the Windows Movie maker program.

On there, click "more info" for a little story about the song.

Letters from War - Mark Schultz

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmjhUPa65mk

She walked to the mailbox
On that bright summers day
Found a letter from her son
In a war far away
He spoke of the weather
And good friends that he'd made
Said I'd been thinking 'bout dad
And the life that he had
Thats why I'm here today
And that the end he said
You are what I'm fighting for
It was the first of the letters from war
She started writing
You're good and you're brave
What a father that you'll be someday
make it home
make it safe
She wrote every night as she prayed
Late in December
A day she'll not forget
Oh her tears stained the paper
With every word that she read
It said "I was up on a hill
I was out there alone
When the shots all rang out
And bombs were exploding
And thats when I saw him
He came back for me
And though he was captured
A man set me free
And that man was your son
He asked me to write to you
I told him i would, oh I swore"
It was the last of the letters from war
And she prayed he was living
Kept on believing
And wrote every night just to say
You are good
And you're brave
what a father that you'll be someday
Make it home
Make it safe
Still she kept writing each day
Then two years later
Autumn leaves all around
A car pulled in the driveway
And she fell to the ground
And out stepped a captain
Where her boy used to stand
He said "mom I'm following orders
From all of your letters
And I've come home again",
He ran into hold her
And dropped all his bags on the floor
Holding all of her letters from war
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home

Mark Schultz's comment on the song: ["Letters From War"] was an idea that I got from reading my great-grandmother's diaries. Three of her four sons were in WWII. She would write them letters and kept all of theirs that they sent her. I was reading her entries, and a letter that my Uncle Gus, who spent a lot of time in Germany, wrote. The letters and the diary entries were like reading a script from a movie. I am so proud of this song, because it speaks of my Great-Grandma's faith in god that she instilled in her sons, which in turn gave them the strength to become great men.

This thread is to wish everyone a Happy thanksgiving but also reflect on whatever we are thankful for.

Myself, I am thankful for our Lord and Savior, that He is also a friend, one who is always there in good times and challenging times.

My family and friends.

Thanksgiving (an inspirational story)

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We willcertainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza. He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life". This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, reassure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one...
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy..
Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Thought for the day:
Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching.

He was walking her home – Mark Schultz

http://www.onlylyrics.com/song.php?id=1004627

He was walking her home
Holding her hand
Oh the way she smiled it stole the breath right out of him
Down that old road
With the stars up above
He remembers where he was the night he fell in love
He was walking her home

He was walking her home - Mark Schultz

http://www.onlylyrics.com/song.php?id=1004627

Looking back
He sees it all
It was her first date the night he came to call

And her dad said son
Have her home on time
And promise me you’ll never leave her side
He took her to a show in town
And he was ten feet off the ground

(Chorus)
He was walking her home
Holding her hand
Oh the way she smiled it stole the breath right out of him
Down that old road
With the stars up above
He remembers where he was the night he fell in love
He was walking her home

Ten more years and a waiting room
At half past one
Was when the doctor said come in and meet your son

And his knees went weak
When he saw his wife
She was smiling and she said he’s got your eyes

And as she slept he held her tight
His mind went back to that first night

(Chorus)

He walked her through the best days of her life
Sixty years together and he never left her side

A nursing home
At eighty-five
And the doctor said it could be her last night
And the nurse said Oh
Should we tell him now
Or should we wait until the morning to find out

But when they checked her room that night
He was laying by her side

Oh he was walking her home
And holding her hand
Oh the way she smiled when he said this is not the end
And just for a while they were eighteen
And she was still more beautiful to him than anything
He was walking her home
He was walking her home

Looking back
He sees it all
It was her first date the night he came to call

Prayers for our Troops and Civilian workers overseas

My twin brother is in Iraq at the moment, as a former soldier, I wish it was me instead of him but it is not so and can't be.

May God look out for them all and guide the aim of his Marine escorts drinker

Amen.

God bless you both.

I am posting a prayer request that all those lost or on a sad journey in bitterness will be found and see that everything is for the good of God, even the hard times. flowerforyou flowerforyou

Romans 3.21
But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Sometimes we all need to vent a little, no-one is perfect. As Christians we should try to lift one another up, rather than tear down.

TM,

I think many of us wonder about that sometimes.

I believe that is the way God made us, with a desire to be in relationships, whether it be with a spouse, a very close friend, or with family.

Prayers with you.

So the extreme introvert, recluse, live in the Bat Cave thing is out, huh....?

laugh laugh laugh

I guess so, if you want to fulfill your dream of being a University Professor. God knows, they could do with some good ones!

"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances."

Thank you, Britty. Since she is a Christian woman it is a struggle for her with her addiction. Addiction can be like a God in the way as addicts we worshiped our addiction. But as a God like that we have to see it as a false God. When we see that it is a false God we can also know as Christian we can't let it be the ruling God because that would be a violation of the first commandment. Greater is he that is within us than he that is in the world. She asked if there was anyone she could turn to beside God because of her anger. It is just the addiction trying to survive. We gave her the desire chip because she does have a honest desire to stop using. She is like a babe in Christ all over again. The addiction is like the roaring lion seeking to devour. I pray that Christ may pacify the addiction. She is at valley now spoken of Psalm 23 and is facing the crossroad but I hope that like me she finds that there is more to God than she could have ever imagined. We are doing our best to encourage her and pray that she has peace from the anger because she is angry at herself as well. Neither do we condemn her as Christ didn't condemn the woman at the well. As addicts who are we to throw the first stone. We welcome her to the fold.flowerforyou

As Greyhound said, very well put.

continue to be a good friend, and Christian witness to this woman.
