All of My Guitars
By TelephoneMan 11-25-08 This is to all the guitars I’ve ever owned, the Pauls, the Strats, the Teles All the oddballs at pawn shops nobody else wanted The misfits that were ugly that I brought home anyway They needed a home so I gave them some tone when I would play the blues My guitars were there when I didn’t have anybody Late at night in a dark hotel room in some city far away I could plug one in and talk for hours, I was never alone when my electric friends were there They saw my joy, they saw my sorrow, and they’ve seen every part of me When I got married my favorite Les Paul was there to help me sing a song Later on, my son learned how to play, and that was a pride for me to see When everything would go to hell, my tried and true wooden friends Were there to help sing me to sleep or express my faith, or help me to sing the blues With a guitar in my hands I can be a court jester, I can make all the people smile Or I can be a rock star and make all the foxy girls dance I can play with my friends at church and sing about Jesus if I wish Sometimes I can tell my story of the blues, those old deep Mississippi blues My guitars were there in the seventies, when I’d fry my brain and buzz They were there in the eighties when I was determined to play the best jazz In the nineties they helped me make my way, the bread I made wasn’t much Now today I share this craft with students near and far, my guitars have always been there On the day they chuck me in the clay, when they visit me at Harvey Neller’s, I’ll take just one along Make my coffin just a little bit wider so I can fit in my favorite Les Paul They say you can’t take it with you, but they’re gonna watch me take that ol’ Paul I won’t ever be without at least one by my side, not now, not then, not ever I hope one day when I see Jesus, they’ll have guitars in heaven Maybe a big fat MESA/Boogie amplifier stack and a huge signal processing rack Then I can sit in with the angels in one heck of a heaven open mic jam Oh Lord, thank you for all of my guitars |

AWESOME!!! I have always wanted to know how to play the guitar, acoustic to electric, that and the electric violin. That would be some fun. smiles, thank you for sharing this. My brothers were both in bands. I have a talented family. I encourage them always to follow their creative dreams. hugs, Nica My suggestion might be to locate a second hand music store like "Music Go Round" and buy a decent used guitar to start. If you want to play electric, I would skip the acoustic step all together, and get started right off with an inexpensive electric. You can find a Fender (made in China or Indonesia) Telecaster for under $200 )brand new). Sometimes in the $129 region. And a small practice amp might cost you about $100. Here is a Fender Squire for $169.99, free shipping http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Squier-Affinity-Series-Telecaster-Special?sku=515115 Here is a Peavey Solo practice amp for $79.99 free shipping http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Solo-Guitar-Amplifier-with-TransTube-Technology?sku=481334 I have a main guitar amp that is much more expensive, but I teach lessons for a living right now, and I have one of those little Peavey amps for my students to plug into and its really not a bad little amp... for not all that much money. If nothing else, you have it at home and can try it anytime you wish. And as you find time, try taking some lessons at a local music store. |
