FYI -

I think the most important thing we can do when enforcing our policies
is to be fair and consistent in executing them.

Typically when we ban people, we will continue to ban as many copy
identities as we find. This has always been our policy.

Now obviously if someone were to create a whole new identity and act
appropriately then we would never find out. And that's ok for the
community because its not disruptive.

Some bans are not permanent, we'll build a suspension feature to make
this more clear to the banned/suspended. We plan for moderators to have
the suspend feature.

Once we have moderators, there will be clear guidelines for everyone to
understand and follow.

The overall goal of this effort is to encourage people to talk freely
and openly and in a fun and safe environment. It is not intended to
make people feel they can't express themselves. We're just asking
people to do it with a little more tact. This is a site for adults, so
let's act like adults yes?

What it should do is this..

a window will pop up saying "Vanchau wants to chat with you" or
something like that.

You then have the option of accepting or denying the chat request

We're kind of on vacation so we can't do much until after Jan 1, but
we'll look into it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Choosing moderators is very important. Also choosing what powers they
have.

Our goal is to make the forums more inviting vs abrasive. A few bad
apples spoils the bunch and that is what we seek to remove.

We have a lot of experience in this. We're not going to do something
that destroys the community we've spent building.

If you're consistently a jerk to people, you will be removed. It's that
simple. We're not expecting some utopia, we just want the worst
elements gone.

its not pointless... its actually very effective.

yes some people will come back under a new id, but then we'll ban them
again.. and again...

there are many ways we can make communities be orderly vs chaotic..

been doing this for over 20 years.. at ezboard.com (the last company i
was at - we had full on community wars and we were able to keep things
orderly..)

They can come back..but if their new "identity" is not appropriate, that
will be banned too..

Most people don't want to get banned b/c they've made friends, etc and
want to keep the same ID. Starting over is a pain so its better just to
behave obv :)

i've been involved with online community for over 20 years. in my
experience, i have never heard of anyone being able to sue anyone else
over something online. it's really really hard. unless you're a
terrorist or child molester, no one even cares. in one situation, it
was a hacker. even with the guy's name and address it was hard to even
get a case. he never was sued, just ended up stopping his illegal
hacking.

most of the time in these situations, it's just someone who is angry and
makes empty threats. i mean think about it, how are you going to sue
someone on this site if you don't know their name or address. we're
certainly not going to give it to you unless you get a court order and
oh.. we don't have that information anyway.

;)

Ontario was banned for a series of bad behaviors. The latest of which
can be seen here:

http://www.justsayhi.com/topic/show/7816?page=39

We will not tolerate this behavior. If you do this on our site, you
will be banned.

It's very simple...

If you complain to us about someone being "abusive", make sure you are
not being "abusive" first to that person. We're not going to take your
side just because you made the complaint.

This is exactly what I told you twice. If you want to make up stuff
that's your call, but it will only get you in trouble. You didn't get
the response you wanted and now you're trying to attack me in public
(not smart)

This is not a site to promote free speech, it is a dating site. If you
come on here and start cursing out people and basically being a jerk,
you will get censored, banned, and anything else we can do to protect
the community.

If you don't want to be censored, don't be a jerk. It's that simple.

OK... so more info on this moderator stuff

There will be at least 2 moderators.. maybe more.
They will public - everyone will know who they are etc

Moderators will basically be given certain powers. Every use of this
power is logged. At the very least, we and other moderators will see
the log. This makes sure these powers are not abused and will let other
mods see why something happened

As far as moderator selection, we're still taking nominations and
listening to the community.

We think this will be a very positive step for the community and
appreciate everyone's input. Anyway, this has been a great discussion.
Feel free to keep talking. It will take us a little time to develop the
system.

Hey Txsgal.... why do you think the real identities of moderators should
not be known? I think moderators would want to be known so they can
provide help and assistance more easily.

Miss9 - not only does your "sister" look just like Tila, she even
dresses the same.

I typed in Tila Nguyen for images.google.com and found this
http://uplink.space.com/attachments/156295-Tila_Nguyen_329.jpg

You guys must use the same photographer too. WOW!

Anyway... back to the real world...

We don't mind getting gruff, that's our job. But that's why we are
thinking of having moderators because we arent really in the day to day
like they would be.
