Heart Mender
|
|
Tears and despair, She wore on her face. Softly she whispered In a tone of lost hope. She gave to me Her broken heart Dropping the pieces Gently in my hands. Asking me, "Heart Mender, Your my last chance, In all my dispair. I've tried, Heart Mender. This heart is so broken, All these little pieces, Just won't stay together anymore. Please, Heart mender, Work your magic for me If not, I will no longer be. Oh Heart Mender, My time is drawing near. Mend my heart, And make it new". I looked at these pieces, And broken they were. All cracked and worn From crushed hopes and dreams. It saddened me To see this woman cry. I imagined All the hurt she survived. I said to her, "Broken hearts are meant to be; It makes the heart grow strong. They may be burdened With breaks and cracks, Which teach the soul Compassion and love. So don't be weary. I'll grace them with my own tears, Which will mend them together And last you for years". As her heart sealed, And started to glow, The woman’s worries Were there no more. I handed to her A new shiny heart that gleamed For it was filled With new hopes and dreams. She smiled. "Oh, how long it has been To have love once again." |

A LETTER, IN WAITING
|

(This one I wrote long before I meet my Lady Wench)
I know you’re out there; Patiently awaiting my arrival, As I search for you in the eyes of every stranger. I dream of you, Holding me in the night, And you long for my Touch; Our patience keeps us content In simply knowing We are fated to cross paths Love to finally find us. In the chaos of the day, I find myself thinking of you, Whoever and wherever you are; Such childishness I could never reveal. We know with every step, we are closer. You long to find me Praying in your silence, Loneliness, Which no one sees, For love to come to you. I pray for your very likeness to enter my life, Become part of me, To merge lives & grow old together. Perhaps, in our next breath, Our hearts will stumble and find each other. I’m grateful to have loved though lost; And yet disenchanted that I’m now without it, Craving its taste once again. The desire to love & be loved Grows stronger with each passing day. Where are you my love? When will you find me? Can you not hear me calling out your name Into the void & darkness? Surely I’m not destined to mere echoes of my own cries. I know you’re there, Feeling as I do, Gazing at the same moon wishing on stars in the same great heavenly sky. One day, we shall share this joy. Just you and I.. |

When a cowboy’s crossin’ over
Does he sit in a rockin’ chair Thinking of the mistakes he made And times he lost? Not this breed of man, He’s thinking of cattle And old saddles And all the good ol’ days. Words of comfort aren’t needed No grief gets a hold. No tears blur his vision ‘Cause his destination is known. His heart is at peace, His body’s now strong His youth is renewed. With no more pain in his back, He can ride and rope and gather strays all day. He’ll be workin’ with The best rounders. They’re there waitin’ For him in the thereafter. He’s a young man once more Ridin’ with a grin. His old horse is saddled. With a jingle of spurs A slap of the reins He heads down the trail Towards Heaven's plains. |

As The Sun Goes Down
|

On a warm summer's night,
As the sun is dipping low, I ride up to the rim To catch the nighttime show. The shadows grow long And darkness soon will be. I close my eyes and listen To the sounds I cannot see. The eagle screams As he prepares to settle down. The coyote howls a different tune, A crooning lament for his prey. The nighthawks are coming to life After sleeping through the day. Down by the creek, Bullfrogs and crickets Chirp their lullaby to the sun. I don’t know much about this old world But when the day is done I can promise you this, If you close your eyes, Open your ears, And listen to the world, As the sun goes down. |
