Ok.. i just went on a topic with the same idea as this one, but it didnt get as much attention as i think it should have..

its obvious what im gonna ask..

is having a tracking chip put in your child a good or bad idea?

and PLEASE explain why you make the choice u do..

i would rather not just see "good idea" or "hell no"..

the parents who have lost their children to kidnappers, or the child just wondering off, probably said hell no to the chip, but after experiencing it first hand im pretty sure they wish they had it..

just give me your thoughts and opinions

I understand why parents would like them. But I keep seeing the day that all these kids grow up and the adult population all has them and the potental abuses for this kinda system. On the other hand it would be easier to find lost hikers and hunters and climbers as well.

I think part of it is that I read and watch too much science fiction, and long before the chip idea was thought of in this context, I've read about it in stories where governments use it to track and keep tabs on what citizens are up too. So my initial reaction is to dislike it. But being from the northwest and seeing a large number of situations where it would be useful for rescue teams makes me think it could be effective.

Sure, it could be quite usefull in case of a kidnapping or other baddies, but who's to say that it's just not another government conspiracy for 'big brother' to keep us under the magnifying glass? *finishes putting aluminum foil over the windows while adjusting the spaghetti strainer helmet*

lol, Moon beat me to the conspiracy theory.

after a night like tonight...i'd probably say yes.

one of my children has asperger's. she also has a severe hearing loss in both ears. she's almost ten.

we were preparing to head to the park for a cook-out...and i went down the block to check the mail. when i returned...she was gone. figuring that she had run across to the tree...or to her friend's...i waited a bit.

we decided to set up the grill at the house...started cooking while canvasing the neighborhood...i checked all the weird hidey-holes that she has...

just as i was about to call the police, i received a phone call from her. she was FOUR MILES AWAY. she thought, for some reason, that we had left without her...and was walking to the park. she had actually walked an extra three miles or so, and then turned back before getting completely lost.

yeah...tracking chip...give me one of them suckers.

What happened to smacking your kid when they talked to strangers or the ever so classic "don't talk to strangers"...sorry but I would have to say I'm against this except in special cases where the child honestly can't know the difference either because of a disability or a mental state. But if your kid is of normal intellect there is no reason they can't scream out or walk away, teach don't find ways around it.

Pets: Yes
Kids: (I have 2) Don't even go there. I resent even buying chipped merchandise at the store, or being asked what my zip-code and/or phone number is.

Something like this, although it offers obvious benefits, will, no doubt in my military mind, be abused by some affectionate government agency (sarcasm intended). There is no way to adequately protect your self from the invasion of privacy. It's a baby-step to Big Brother - Get everyone used to the concept, and then quietly pass a law requiring that everyone be chipped at birth - Then it's just a little hop to controlling every conceivable facet of your existence.

~ How about a bracelet that only the parent has the security key for? I don't think I'd have problem with that.

i dont think a lot can be taught to a kid to keep an adult much larger than them from snatching them up into a van or something

Sure .... chip away . I don't have kids but I think it would be smart to chip everyone . If your not doing anything wrong or going places you shouldn't why do you care if the government or anyone else knows where you are .

thats a good idea aswell.. but weather it be a chip or bracelet, i think something needs to be done.. there are too many "Amber Alerts"..

If someone tried abducting my kids, I'd probably end up paying their hospital bill. I've taught them to knife & neuter first, and ask questions later.
