This period of time will be one remembered by the 911 attacks and that the majority of our political leaders decided in the days thereafter that we could no longer sit idle. The world was full of "hot areas" so too speak and Iraq was first on the list by saddam's violations of so many UN resolutions and it's previous invasion of Kuwait.

In the long run, a hierarchical society was only possible on a basis of poverty and ignorance. ... Ignorance is Strength"

"The very word 'war', therefore, has become misleading. It would probably be accurate to say that by becoming continuous, war has ceased to exist. ... War is Peace."

The attitude before 911 was that such a thing would never happen in the US and when that bubble of impossibility was destroyed the overwhelming majority of US politicians and US citizens wanted us to secure the world to pre 911 comfort.

never going to happen....that security was based on a naive ideal that no one would ever dare touch the US...surprise!!!!

The US has been drawn into a religious, holy war by fanatics who dont care if they die or if it takes a thousand years to win...how do you fight that with conventional weapons??? How do you return to a "safe, pre 9/11 comfort"?

I' m not saying that that is possible - just at that moment in time everybody wanted somebody to do something to try to put our security back together again.

and sheeple willingly give up their individual rights (along with personal responsibility) just for the sake of having the "illusion" of safety. So now, its 5 years later...feeling any safer?

Toasted:

That was a stupid question.

I have listened to almost all of President Bush's speaches. Did you even THINK before you posed that question to me? I do not think so.

His first 2 State of the Union speeches and the ones after 9/11 were the most ELOQUENT, compassionate, thought provoking speeches ANYONE EVER gave.

Now, I know you do not like that, but you do not like anything positive.

That is very sad for a young man, to be so closed minded and blinded.

Hopefully in time you will mature and grow.

how are you any different than the bs you just pinned on me when you are the one throwing labels onto me?

bush is a moron

WHAT is happening to this country - all the hate and bashing?
Our country will just grow further and further and further apart with all this nonsensical, idiotic, hate and bashing.

So be it.

you are just as guilty if not moreso than anyone on this site

Lindy,
You are one of only 28% in this country with the blind loyalty to still think Bush'es policies are good. Surely you dont expect the other 72% to be as blind as you while the country is being destroyed!!noway noway noway

You are a Minority, and for good reason!!drinker

Its funny but everytime Bush's numbers go down, the terriorist color alert goes up...hmmmmmm

anyway,911 hasn't changed my life one iota except to make the American dream the impossible dream because all the prices have skyrocketed because of Iraq and greedy corporations.Bush is not popular with the working class and with good reason.frown

People are sort of funny about the "greedy corporations" argument in that in order to be here they have to all but support one. Here's a question. How many people who subscribe to that notion have a computer with a Microsoft OS running in the background? I know some don't (personally, I own a Mac) but a number of people do. So it would seem that the greedy corporations are all of those that "other" people use not the ones we use.
