It isn't just in relationships... there is lack of commitment in many areas of our everyday living... lack of being a parent... lack of in paying our bills.... lack in work ethics... we as a society in large have forsaken the real meaning of commitment in all fashions not just relationships.... it is there is where we feel it the most...
If no one is willing to take on a role without feeling they are giving up to much of themselves, then everyone will just go in their own direction.

I think if you are a young person your juices say populate the world. As you get a little older it becomes one of protection, dedication and admiration for the things you have in life. They mean so much more!

I'm just one person but that's how I feel. I know there are bad peeps at any age and in both genders.

I think it is good that all forms of slavery were abolished.
I am much abashed to see that there are men who feel that women should still be subservient to them.

I think women should do what they want and men should do what they want.

Why do people think that is wrong?

Why don't we go back before slavery was banned and women were given the vote? You know - the good old days?

Would that work for you Brian?
Sure. Slavery, and commitment. Ok whatever

Ooohhh. I hope no one hopes that marriage is a form of slavery? Man, if that's the case, then I'm totally out of turn even on this topic... Marriage is supposed to be an equal partnership... Or so I was told...?

rt - I was reacting to Brian's statement that all was great back in the old days before women had rights. I was wondering if he would feel the same if it were applied to him.

I am thinking, no.

I meant no offense to anyone.

Marriage is an equal partnership if it is going to work.

Thank you. That was 8 years ago, and I've been over it. I can't lie. It's made me a LOT pickier and selective about who I want to share my life with, but it didn't destroy my faith in love and marriage. In fact, after I got through my 'playa' phase (ashamed to admit) it made me realize that THAT lifestyle was the mirage, not true love and commitment.

I take responsibility for choosing the wrong woman, for not seeing the warning signs, etc. etc. She did the bulk of the dirt, sure, but come on... My parents have been together for almost 40 years, and believe me it aint always been pretty. But they're there. Solid. And still in love. I know I'll find the woman I can give that type of commitment, love and respect to one day (assuming they all haven't given up yet). I feel bad (not sorry - not being condescending) for anyone who lost that dream. To me, it's (love and commitment) really the only thing in life that you can actually own and keep. Everything else is just an illusion. We've forgotten what's real and fake.

I am talking about what you said about going back to the old days before women had rights. You implied that women having freedom to make choice is what has messed up the world.
That offends me.

I feel that woman who stay home and raise there family should be given a great deal more credit than what is given..... it should be an honor to raise your kids and take care of the home.... not be made to feel as SUBSERVIENT...

I don't see it as a form of slavery at all....

Its not about having right, or taking them away. Its just that a woman has the biggest role in raising a family. When you take that major part out, and expect child care, and school teachers to fill in. The family unit is going to suffer.

Brian did you not say that you lost your family because you were a drunk? And you blame this on the woman?

Why is it the woman's responsiblity to keep the family together? Men should contribute as well.

You are right. It is so important to give all woman credit for raising their children. Especially the good ones. The ones that put the children first. Not the ones throwing them off overpasses.

what about women who have to raise their children alone because the husband leaves and does not want to pay child support?

Any hurrahs for us, Brian?

You posted a "what was your darkest day" thread and you said yours was coming home drunk and finding that your family had left you.

Was that a lie then, or is this a lie now?
