obviously if they know you don't speak it then their not talking to you, and if their not talking to you then why would you care what language they speak? and if their not talking to you why should they say it so you can understand? is that any of your business?

In my experience it is BECAUSE they know you don't understand and they want to talk about you.
My sister was checked out by a latin individual and his buddies one time who felt the need to speak spanish about it. I picked up on body language, but my sister actually KNEW spanish, but pretended she didn't know what they were saying til a few minutes later. It was hilarious for her to finally calmly turn to them and say in spanish that she understood everything they said... they apologized immediately. |

BUT what really pissed me off was when the staff that could all talk english would talk to each other in indian in front of me and other members of staff, no that is really rude. |

Not everything is about you. Perhaps because it is their native tongue it is more comfortable for them to use it to converse with each other. I am not sure why someone would care what language other people are speaking, if that person was not involved in the conversation. If I were living in a foreign country I would probably speak that language when talking to natives of that country, but English to other Americans who might be there. Why wouldn't I? Seems silly not to. |

If you spoke German and were in Berlin with other Americans which language would you speak? Seriously. I'd do the english.
It doesn't bother me at all. An English speaking person talks about you when you aren't around so what difference does it really make? I guess the saying: "If you have something to say, say it my face" is out the door though. |

If your a nurse or a doctor and you happen to know another language and your fellow employees do as well and you speak something at work that's not english, you can get fired on the spot!

I don't know when you accidentally overhear something their reactions can be quite amusing. "I'm sorry WHAT were you saying?!" |

It is rude to do this if a group of you are together for lunch, as this person indicated. It excludes the non-speaking person from participating in a conversation.
