I don't know when you accidentally overhear something their reactions can be quite amusing. "I'm sorry WHAT were you saying?!" True.. but then after you walk away it starts up again and worse. Then you know, they know you know, they know you know they know.... |

Then you know, they know you know, they know you know they know.... Yup, and the passive aggressiveness begins! "IS that my stapler?" "Your break was over 5 minutes ago. I'm just letting you know." "When is my vacation. OH! It's next week!" |

If your a nurse or a doctor and you happen to know another language and your fellow employees do as well and you speak something at work that's not english, you can get fired on the spot! Where? Anywhere in america |

obviously if they know you don't speak it then their not talking to you, and if their not talking to you then why would you care what language they speak? and if their not talking to you why should they say it so you can understand? is that any of your business? |

Why do ppl speak in their own language (whatever that may be) in front of you when they know you cant understand? I have filipino friends who do that to me all the time and i think that it is rude ....i dont care if they speak it on their own time but not on our lucnch breaks Oh well guess i will secretly have to learn their language when i was a dental nurse, i worked for a indian practice. in front of patients they would talk in indian, thats fine because they cant talk english. BUT what really pissed me off was when the staff that could all talk english would talk to each other in indian in front of me and other members of staff, no that is really rude. |

obviously if they know you don't speak it then their not talking to you, and if their not talking to you then why would you care what language they speak? and if their not talking to you why should they say it so you can understand? is that any of your business? seems a tad paranoid. Not everything is about you. Perhaps because it is their native tongue it is more comfortable for them to use it to converse with each other. I am not sure why someone would care what language other people are speaking, if that person was not involved in the conversation. If I were living in a foreign country I would probably speak that language when talking to natives of that country, but English to other Americans who might be there. Why wouldn't I? Seems silly not to. |

Anywhere in america That is incorrect, my dear. No, I went through college learning this. I also went through clinicals. At three different hospitals I was told the same thing. The reason for that rule is because of doctor/patient confidentiality. If your speaking a different language, and no one knows what your saying, then as far as a bystander is concerned, you were talking about a patient. Unless, a patient doesn't speak english, then that is fine. |
