In a public forum I don't think you can tell people who is and who is not allowed to quote you. I thought it was funny. I quote people every day and no one has ever gotten upset about it. I said "classy"

If that was incorrect, I apologize.

Why do ppl speak in their own language (whatever that may be) in front of you when they know you cant understand?huh I have filipino friends who do that to me all the time and i think that it is rudenoway ....i dont care if they speak it on their own time but not on our lucnch breaksgrumble Oh well guess i will secretly have to learn their language:wink: bigsmile bigsmile laugh laugh

Well now, unless they are speaking TO YOU there shouldn't be a problem, unless you are just wanting to listen to their conversation. You might consider that they are talking to each other, and one of them may not speak English very well. Why on earth should they speak your language just so you could eaves drop on what they are saying?? That's silly. It's not rude of them to speak their language just because someone might want to listen to their conversation.

On the other hand they might be planning a terrorists attack on the building. laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Just kidding.bigsmile

If your a nurse or a doctor and you happen to know another language and your fellow employees do as well and you speak something at work that's not english, you can get fired on the spot!

Where?

Anywhere in america

That is incorrect, my dear.

No, I went through college learning this. I also went through clinicals. At three different hospitals I was told the same thing. The reason for that rule is because of doctor/patient confidentiality. If your speaking a different language, and no one knows what your saying, then as far as a bystander is concerned, you were talking about a patient. Unless, a patient doesn't speak english, then that is fine.

thats interesting jessica, i didnt know that. flowerforyou flowerforyou

I NEVER say lol; and I thought the insertion of emoticons was optional.

Again, I apologize.

I will remember to laugh out loud at myself every time I say something funny.

Your explanation is correct, mostly. Your initial statement was false. I'm all about saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Thank you for clarifying your original statement. Keep in mind this sort of thing happens all the time. And goes unreported, as well as the fact that some people really aren't bothered by it.

i totally disagree,

when your in a room, and theres 3 of you talking in english, having a conversation, then suddenly they change to talk in punjabi, now that leaves the person who doesnt talk punjabi, feeling rather crappy, and its just rude. then they put the conversation back to english blah blah. that is rude, you cant have a conversation between 3 people and talk different languages half way through, have they got no manners?? its offensive and damn rude.

maybe for the lunch break thing, if these people are your work friends and you are having lunch with them, you could say, hey, what did you just say? clue me in, I feel left out..and maybe they will realize how you feel.

In a case like that yes I agree it is rude. (I was thinking that these people were not really together as friends.) If it happened to me I think I would tell them to please translate or to speak English. If they act all innocent inform them that it is bad manners to do that because it excludes you from the conversation. If they don't understand that, then excuse yourself from them and get some better friends.

This is a little off topic but I'm actually trying to learn Spanish right now. Here in So Cal it has become a second language. Many jobs in the public sector will hire people only if they are bilingual. You also get a nice raise if you can speak both languages.

We are becoming a global community. In Europe most people speak more than 2 languages.
