I am a huge advocate for mental illness, and speak freely about my being in therapy and taking medication to treat my depression and anxiety. Because of this, several friends have felt more comfortable seeking the help they needed. We need to get rid of the stigma that goes along with therapy, medication, and mental illness in general!smokin

There is no doubt I need a therapist! If I had a money tree I'd make an appointment TODAY.

Yes, I have used psychotherapy in the past to help me make some changes in myself, recover from certain life experiences, and for emotional support. Its all good - but sometimes you need to take what you have learned and practice it.

I believe therapy will work only in as much as the person attending is committed to the treatment and motivated for change. It DOES work and some kids really need it. Children are resilient, yes - but some things are just too heavy or difficult to get through on your own. In more cases than not, when a child is acting out or has emotional problems, it is usually the parent who has the problem, not the child. The child may simply be reacting to bad parenting or neglect.

In cases of adults and Depression, studies have shown that treatment is most effective with a combination of Pharmacotherapy and Psychotherapy.

Sadly, though - for some people, all the therapy and insight in the world isn't going to make a change for the better. *sigh*

I usually come out feeling worse than I went in.

If that is happening, you probably need a different therapist.

Nope, i just don't dwell in my problems.... I'm a genuinly happy person. Sitting around talking about my sh*t doesn't help much.... I look at it logically.... not emotionally...
