Bad things happen...and they are perpetrated by people, sometimes because they are "bad" other times they are compelled to do so for reasons outsiders will never truly understand.
I am bothered by this trend of "lets not talk about the bad, lets only praise the good".
Its the classic story of the elephant in the living room, everyone knows its there but avoids talking about it and just lives with it. In my opinion the rotten apples need to be exposed, and then gotten rid of before they spoil the good...

symbelmyne.....

You have put forth some food for thought, but there is no trend of "Let's not talk about the bad; let's only praise the good." Take a look at these political sites. Where and when is there talk about the good? There are certain people on this site who have never posted a positive thing. All they do is troll the websites for negativity about our president, our country, and even our military. All these people do is cut/paste/post items that are meant to bring on an onslaught of viciousness and take us all down another depressing road.

Just as an example of the above, take a look at the site on the President's Shuffle. The President does some dancing and it is turned into a Bush-bashing event. I still don't understand how anything so basic as dancing can be turned into such a mean thread. I suppose if Bush had turned out to be a Fred Astaire, the posters would have shouted he was showing off and not displaying modesty. So, I repeat once more that I disagree with your statement that there is a trend of "Let's not talk about the bad; let's only praise the good." If there were such a trend, our country would be a lot better for it.

I have already stated my opinion on the purpose of this thread.

I showed my son who is a volunteer firefighter/EMT this thread. It did not bother him! He said 'Mom, that comes with the terrority, we are used to it.'

USED TO IT?????!!!!!

That, is a sin it itself, that the very people who use their lives to help others have to become 'used to' getting degraded!

It is sad that there are people out there that seem to think it is of the evermost important duty to their country to broadcast it to the world of a "few far and in between" negative incidents regarding our 'LIFE SAVERS.' OH, we MUST expose these people!

As if the rest of the world is totally ignorant to the fact that things of this nature happen in EVERY walk of life, even their OWN.

And, I have found that it is people who have to 'down' others (even though they do it in a very 'discrete ((or so they think they are being discrete))manner), they are the very ones who do things of a similar nature. You know, "the ones who have the LEAST room to talk." The old "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" saying.

But, it is GOOD to know that people such as the volunteer firefighters, EMTs/Paramedics/police/military, etc. keep on doing what they are doing ---- their good and serving mankind DESPITE the negative 'attackers' in this world.

It just goes to show how STRONG our 'life savers' really are!

Lindyy...I trust your son's view on how some people judge those in professions like his...I do know that the majority of people however highly respect your son and his peers. It is disturbing when we hear of what some people as these volunteers did but the unreported valor that your son and his peers perform on a daily basis paramounts the reported stories of misdeeds...

...the idea that a "noble" profession like firefighters should be protected and that any talk about a few rotten apples isnt neccesarily disrespectful of that profession was the focus of my original comment.
As far as the Bush shuffle incident..well what can I tell you? Politics is dirty business, politicians dont deserve the same respect as firefighters (in my opinion) because they are elected to serve the interests of ALL the people. Firefighters, Paramedics and other human services providers do what they do willingly, sure they get paid, its a small compensation for putting their lives on the line for others.
Politicians..? hell if they cant stand the heat they should get out of the kitchen...remember Ford?? the guy fell down a couple of times and they were all over him and it never stopped...it comes with the territory.

Lindyy, at no point in this thread have i put down any of this countries brave men and women, this topic did concern me because it hit so close to home. The issue though, is the fire fighters in this case, broke the law.

Here's something else.....as i said...last year when this started, they were setting brush fires in drought conditions, This is a rural area, there is one firetruck, what if the fire got away from them? Fire fighters would have to be called in from neighboring counties, would there be time?

well...given that, all we have to rely on now, are two fire fighters, and the neighboring counties. So when your house is on fire....it's going to take a while for them to arrive.

Now, all that being said, I have the utmost respect for the honest people who put their lives in harms way to protect us, the bottom line here is, These people broke the law, they committed arson, we have been left basically unprotected. That is the point of the thread, certainly not to criticize all the firefighters. I'm sorry if you took this personally, but facts are facts. Are you suggesting they not be punished?

when people do not realize

there are bad people in

every segment of society

they are opening themselves up

for very bad things

---

and to take things personally

just because you can relate to a subject

is a lot more harmful to that person

than the person that wrote it

---

for two reasons at least

1 they more than likely did not mean it as a personal issue

2 they also more than likely dont care

------

so all must be taken with a grain or 2 of salt

--

just a thought

but hey what do i know

Mark:

The following cut and paste from your original post:

"What is so far unsubstantiated, is this...
according to locals, there is also an investigation into an insurance scam.

This equates, (imo) to a team of doctors poisoning a patient for money."

PRETTY UGLY MARK, for just wanting to "talk" about an incident in your local community.

Don't do a spin by saying I suggest that they do not get punished. Get real. That is childish of you to say Mark.

Why do you not be one of the courageous ones and join the volunteer fire department and risk your life? Volunteer your services to your community, like my son does. By the way Mark, my son works 7 days a week, regular work and volunteer work.

Or, why not set up a committe to raise funds for your local volunteer fire department?

Or, set up a committee to bring in new members. Go to your local and county and state governemnt for help..

INSTEAD OF GRINDING IN AN UNFORTUANTE INCIDENT. DO SOMETHING POSITIVE ABOUT IT.

This goes to where I STAND for POSITIVE, others prefer to indulge in the NEGATIVE.
