To a certain extent. Although, on the other hand, I would rather that than responding and holding conversations if they aren't really interested at all. At least you know 100% how they feel if they don't respond.
And just to say, I think that a lot of people don't check their account very often. |

I always respond unless it's crude. So yes, I'd find it rude.

when I get an email from some guy 20 years older than me and 500 miles away, I don't see why its rude if I don't respond.

i find it more rude when someone doesn't bother to read the information that i've taken the time to complete on my profile (granted this one isn't complete at all, lol).
if i specifically state not to send a friend's request without ever having spoken with me before (for example) and they do, they've indicated that they didn't care to read what i'd written and, if they did, they certainly didn't care what i asked. that's rude and i could care less how i appear when i don't write back. i also don't reply to any one or two-word sentences such as 'wassup' or 'hey sexy'. usually my profiles are fairly extensively filled out and if that's all they could muster up to say, they probably wouldn't interest me on any level, so i just hit 'delete' and again, could care less if they find me rude. |

when I get an email from some guy 20 years older than me and 500 miles away, I don't see why its rude if I don't respond. Age can be an issue, as can distance but a short note saying thanks for the email, but I do not do LDR would suffice. I do answer all my emails even if not interested. |
