In the states it would be a nightmare because there are so many people already, Argentina has a population of about 45mil, compared to 300mil in USA..so the more people taxing the system the longer the wait, But hell when I was in the states and had health care I still had a 3-6 week wait for a doctors appointment so I dont see the difference.

symbelmyne.....

What you are stating above is not true. I never heard of anyone in my circle who ever had to wait three to six weeks for an appointment. When I call my doctor, I am asked if it is an emergency. If so, I am told the doctor will fit me in and to come over immediately. If it is not an emergency, then the appointment is usually within the same week.

Our Health Care System is wonderful. I was involved in an accident on January 8th of this year in center city Philadelphia. First of all, I was amazed by the multitude of people who rushed to help me. Actually, they really overwhelmed me, because I had been hurt and I was scared. One of them called 911. The ambulance got there in a matter of minutes ..... now remember ..... this was center city Philadelphia. I was taken to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Emergency Room at 34th Street. The paramedics from the ambulance stayed with me until a doctor came, which took a matter of minutes. Someone tried to approach me to ask about my insurance. The doctor waved that person away and said, forget about insurance. We need to take care of her right away.

I was told I needed to wait a few minutes before an IV could be put in me since my medical records needed to be accessed. Incidentally, I was not in a life-threatening situation, just terribly banged up and in awful pain. In the meantime, I was taken for x-rays, put in a surgery room and told that as soon as the radiologist read the x-rays, a medical team of two doctors and four nurses were going to take care of me. About ten minutes later, the doctors and nurses appeared. The procedure was performed to make me whole and well again. Of course, I was still in a lot of pain, but physically, I was okay.

There was something else that was really fantastic. There was a mix-up in that the nurse thought I had no one to take me home. Accordingly, she told me that the doctor authorized a fifty-dollar voucher so I could go home in a private car. Of course, I told her my son was coming and it wasn't necessary. An orderly wheeled me to the front door and stayed with me until my son came. Additionally, that day, even though it was January 8th, it had been unseasonably warm. So, I was wearing a light weight jacket. However, when I left the hospital, it was cold. The hospital orderly grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around me, telling me to keep it, that the hospital wouldn't want me to get cold.

What did all of the above cost me? I have a co-pay of fifty dollars for the hospital, and that was it.

When I was leaving, I was told I needed to see the doctor within a week. When I made the appointment, no problem.

fanta46........ Doctors "drum up unnecessary procedures to make more money," as you say, because America is turning into an overly litigious society. We will sue over nothing. Therefore, to cover their butts, doctors have got to order all kinds of tests.

This leads to the REAL solution to make healthcare insurance affordable for all. TORT Reform. Until there is a stop put to lawyers like John Edwards and James Sokolove, insurance rates for everything will be high.

Everything you buy has product liability insurance, adding to the cost. Doctors have malpractice insurance, which drives up cost. They run test for every possible disease, also driving up the cost. Worst of all, in many cases they offer little in the way of treatment for the underlying cause and instead treat the symptoms.

OBGYN's in my state are getting out of the practice. Or moving out of state because insurance rates for them coupled with price controls from the health insurance companies are making it impossible for them to stay in business.

There is a place for people that are harmed by true negligence and a certain amount of compensation is due. However this process has become way out of control and the awards for many of these lawsuits are insane.

Consider the warning label on the blow dryer in my bathroom.

WARNING! Do not use while sleeping!

Now to most people, that would be a common sense issue. But you know that warning was added because someone burned themselves using it to dry their hair while they were sleeping, sued and won.

The most widespread and successful "Get Rich Quick" Scheme is to sue someone for something. It needs to be stopped. When it does, the cost of everything including healthcare insurance will go down.

aww, but then the land of entitlement will cease to exist. How ever will people survive with out their hand outs and get rich scemes?

you are absolutely right in my humbled opinion, I could not agree with you more if I had said it first.

personal action, personal responsibility for those actions.

time to bring common sense back into the courtrooms. lawyers are the devil(hahahaha j/k)

you see, what happens is democrats jump all over republicans. Then bend and stretch the truth to dump everything in the republican's laps. Notice how, after all this arguing, we all of a sudden of a democratic congress? They are trying to do the same thing for presidency. Don't get me wrong, republicans do the same thing. This is why i hate the party system. Everyone is pointing their finger at the chosen scapegoats. I highly doubt Bush and a few selected others were the only ones making the decisions. And i highly doubt this decision wouldn't have been made without congressional approval. And i doubt congress wouldn't approve without knowing facts. I'm also thinking the U.N. would have been all over it, as well as all those other countries that went in with us. Now people are changing their minds and questioning things because they are sick of seeing this war (wars are messy) on t.v. Anyhow.....does this make sense to anyone? Cause this is just a late night thought.
